Are the days of songs like "the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" or "Taxi" or even "American Pie" ending up on "Top Forty/Hot Hits" or whatever they call it over? Is it just because no one is writing them, or radio programmers won't push them?
American Pie isn’t a story song, really. Wreck sure is, and a superb one, too! Lots of rap songs over the years are story songs. Lots.
You might be right on American Pie, but there is a coherence to the verses that tell a story of America through music. What about "Operator"? And there is an Ed Sheeran hit (don't know the name) about a friend ?who passed away that might qualify as a "story song"
Taylor Swift’s All Too Well (Taylor’s Version) recently hit number one. And clocking in at 10.13, the longest song to ever to claim that spot.
Corridos are perennially popular in Latin America, the Mexcan top 100 is loaded with them, Hispanic radio in the USA plays them all the time.
