I spot somewhere that there are still many movies that have not been made it to dvd yet and are only available on VHS. Is it true?

There are a lot of movies that never made it to DVD and/or Blu-Ray.

Weeds, starring Nick Nolte. And the few copies I've purchased on VHS in recent years have never played properly on my VCR. Been checking for this movie on DVD/Blu-Ray for a long time, to no avail. This film moved me in a significant way, and the lead character reminds me of a dear friend of mine that has since passed away. But it puzzles me why it was never released on DVD.

I think if you post this question in the Video Arts Forum, you will find the experts on this matter.

Here's an old thread on the subject.

A box set containing all 3 Decline movies came out a few years ago. It is well worth checking out.

Erich von Stroheim's "Greed", for instance. King Vidor's "The Crowd" is another silent classic unavailable on any (legal) disc.

I have this somewhere, I kept it on VHS I think from when I visited the States. I don't think I made it all the way through it though

Those are supposed to be grey-market discs - don't know if those are authorized or not

But to be fair, I'd be interested in that release myself - how's the quality of it?

Yeah, it's definitely not a cinematic masterpiece, but there's a lot of nostalgia behind it for me. I bought it on VHS at Tower Video back when it came out, but it's long since lost.

I have an ex-GF that absolutely loved that movie, so when we were together, I bought it for her on VHS off eBay for Christmas... I think I paid $30.00 or so for it used. It was a hot title on VHS then, glad it's on DVD now so people can get it at a better price (or I hope a better price).

To the best of my knowledge, "Willard" and "Ben" have never officially been released on DVD. I know the remake of "Willard" is on DVD, but I'm talking about the original one from the 70s.

Willard and Ben have both been released in a BD / DVD combo pack.
