He was great. Even all these years later, every time I fall off my bicycle, I think of Arte Johnson.

Remember his classic character on The Partridge Family? (he played an artist who painted a nude on the family's garage door)

He was great back then. I loved "Laugh In" as a kid.

He hosted the first season of a made in Detroit kids' show called Hot Fudge. That was my introduction to him and his work. I later saw him on a ton of TV shows (variety and others) and always enjoyed his appearances. There was an impish subversity to his work. RIP and thank you, Artie, for all the laughs. Condolences to his family and loved ones.

R.I.P. Always made me laugh. Loved his German soldier character and the dirty old man character he did. After Laugh-in, I always enjoyed his guest appearances on other TV shows, such as The Partridge Family, Fantasy Island and others. Remember seeing him in a movie or two too, including his role as Dracula's servant Renfield in the horror-comedy Love At First Bite with George Hamilton and Richard Benjamin.

Side note: There was a Priest in my Diocese when I was a kid who looked just like Arte Johnson. We all called him Father Arte Johnson (not to his face.) He wasn't a pastor of any of the churches (that I know of) that were part of the diocese (may have been a teacher at one of the schools.) But he was used as one of the rotating fill-in priests who said mass when a head pastor of one of the churches was unavailable to say mass.
