    Hey all,

Are there any artists out there that haven't done a Christmas album, but you would want one from?

I was just thinking of this today as I was playing Cheap Trick's new Christmas CD. Great CD. Who would have dreamed, way back in the golden age of Classic Rock, that so many of these artists would do a Christmas CD one day? Cheap Trick, Jethro Tull, the Moodies, Skynyrd, Ritchie Blackmore, Glenn Hughes, Chris Squire, Keith Emerson, Jon Anderson, the list goes on.

Anyway, I would want a Christmas CD from:

Elton John: Yes, he did a single way back when, but how about a whole CD?

Steve Hackett: Whether it would be prog-epic versions of Christmas songs, or solo classical guitar, or a combination of the two, it would be great.

Steve Vai. He once proclaimed that he was a huge fan of Christmas music. I think he would do a great Christmas CD on his own. Come to think of it, judging by the performances on the "Merry Axemas" CD's, all of the artists on there would probably do great Christmas CD's of their own as well: Trevor Rabin, Satriani, Trower, Steve Morse, John Sykes, Alex Lifeson, etc.

Adrian Belew: I would love to hear him lend his one-of-a-kind guitar playing and singing to a collection of Christmas music. It would be fantastic!

And some artists that don't fall under the banner of "Classic Rock":

David Sanborn: Whether it's traditional jazz style or jazz-pop style, I'm sure he would come up with something great.

Tom Scott: He did a song on a GRP Christmas CD. Would love a whole CD from him like that.

Lee Ritenour: Same as Tom Scott

Leo Kottke: His acoustic guitar playing would lend itself perfectly to Christmas music, but he has said he isn't interested. (Boo!) He did do a song on a Windham Hill Christmas comp CD though.

And as weird as it sounds, William Shatner. He is working on a Christmas CD now, presumably for next year. I'd love to hear that!

OK, so who would you like a Christmas CD from?

I would totally buy that. And it would be less incongruous than Rob Halford's Christmas album, just because Sabbath have, every once in a while, stuck a little Christianity into their lyrics!

I always wanted to hear Nirvana do an album of traditional Christmas songs just to hear how it would turn out. :)

He does at least play on two Christmas albums: Chris Squire's "Swiss Choir" and the Prog World Orchestra's "Proggy Christmas," the latter a Neal Morse creation.

    Leon Bridges would be great.

So would Florence + The Machine.

Of course, McCartney. He's hinted that he's recorded Christmas songs at home. It would make total sense for him to release a full album of Christmas standards, maybe a new song of his own, with a Wonderful Christmas Time remake/remix on it as well. He could also re-record that acoustic ditty heard on the Beatles '68 Christmas disc.

Kate Bush, preferably around the time of Never For Ever - her imaginative power combined with her heavenly singing back then would have made for a magical christmas album (I mean, we already have December Will be Magic Again, so we know where it would've been at) with the additional Fairlight touch of N4E. Oh well...
