I'm neither here nor there about lyrics. I enjoy good lyrics, but even that is subjective.
For example Lady Marmalade has some of the most inane lyrics, possibly ever, written, but it's a great song.

Filter. As much as I like them (mostly from the nostalgia), their Title of Record and Amalgumut albums would be killer with even half-decent lyrics.

Agree on Bush and Coldplay. My wife loves Bush and we regularly laugh at some of their lyrics even as we sing along. "Summer is winter and you always knew" is a personal fave.

Well of course the obvious example is Frank Zappa, I could really get into his music but the toilet humor just makes him juvenile and unlistenable.

Not `Bush`, but `Bush`, Kate Bush....

"Bang Goes a Kanga on the Bonnet of the Van".

    For our American friends `Bonnet` = `Hood`.

I'd say Kiss, but even their incredibly stupid lyrics doesn't ruin them

Post-Waters Floyd. I think David's delivery of them can be a bit corny here and there too. Still love the stuff though!

er, the music and lyrics of every artist are "of the time" they happen to be writing in. Really don't see how it could be otherwise.

I consider a lot of what Morrison wrote to be overreaching poetically, but i give him credit for trying out a lot of different things word and phrase wise. in that sense i don't consider them "bad" in the sense of being dumb, cheesy, cliched, or hackneyed--i guess i would put them at their worst in the category of 'pretentious' if i had to be critical about them....

Enya isn't really about lyrics - she treats the voice far more as an instrument - but just try getting through something like Anywhere Is or Orinoco Flow once you've noticed the words.

I'll probably get a lot of backlash for this one, but now that I'm older "Back In Black" is marred by some really dumb lyrics (a problem with all of Brian Johnson era AC/DC).

I don't think you'll get much backlash on that one!

    Back in black
    I hit the sack
I've been too long I'm glad to be back
    Yes, I'm let loose
    From the noose
    That's kept me hanging about
I've been looking at the sky
    'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die
    I got nine lives
    Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

Yes/Jon Anderson, whilst I don't like Yes and as the lyrics make no sense can't be sure they're poor.

Having said that I've got a soft spot for Olias, even though the lyrics are so naff.
