It's a famous Hoosier reading a book by another famous Hoosier that he finds interesting. Hoosiers come from Indiana.

Yes, I know what a Hoosier is. I'm not familiar with the picture or the author though. I just know every Mellencamp radio hit is insanely annoying after about the 3rd listen, and I'm going to hold it against the whole state.

I guess I was just trying to say that James Dean came from Indiana, along with a great a poet, and more than it's share of serial killers.

    I hate Mellencamp.

Enough interesting people came from Indiana, but they all had to go elsewhere to do those interesting things. At least in the recorded music/film era, which is really the only history I pay that much attention to. Maybe if I was a basketball fan.

"Cherry Bomb" - The Runaways. They had other good songs, but that one has the mojo.
"Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)" - Cockney Rebel. Really fantastic tune, and I can hear where it influenced Nick Cave with those stops in "Nature Boy".
Magazine has other good tunes, but "Shot By Both Sides" is the one for me--it combines Buzzcockian guitar aggression with Howard Devoto's great snarl. Plus a great punk guitar solo.

And echoing an earlier post--"I'm Not In Love" by 10cc. When it first came out, I thought it was interesting, but now it comes across as a miracle of analog studio wizardry that is utterly mindblowing.

Same here, although my friends and I used to like randomly saying, "I do declare it's a free-for-all" back in our high school days.

I overestimated the number of famous killers from Indiana. But there is one good one, who lived and died there:

Unfortunately her one hit doesn't compel me to check out her other material, but it almost has to be an improvement.

Think they were basically wasting their time afterwards and they were never able to achieve another Creep, thus earning them 'one-hit-wonder' status.

I happened to have the album and stumbled upon the song and it was much better that the hit. Unfortunately, my copy of the album has a lot of surface noise on the track. I hope to get that song, and just that song, as a download someday.

Let the Day Begin would be my pick for the Call, but I also like The Walls Came Down. Those two songs don't even sound like same band.
