Artists You're "Supposed To Be Into" But Just Don't Care About That Much

Obviously nobody cares. It's just for chatting sake

 

I go with my own opinions. If I like someone, I like someone, regardless of what others think. But I really don't see the attraction of Beyoncé, Adele, Ed Sheeran or U2.

 

If being a geezer means you don't have much tolerance for pointless, meandering, overdone forum thread topics, then I'll that freak flag fly!

 

I don’t buy into the ideology of getting into music that everyone else is into and that somehow if I’m not into these same musicians/band/composers that I’m not ‘hip’. I have always followed my own musical path and never worried about whether what I’m listening to is socially ‘acceptable’ or ‘cool’. I don’t really care who’s ‘hot’ right now or even what is on the radio. Music is about emotional/intellectual fulfillment and soothing the soul not some kind of popularity contest or some secret society where only the coolest people listen to what’s current and what is trending at this moment in time.

I grew up as a huge fan of New Wave/Synthpop....NEVER liked Depeche Mode!

 

Joni Mitchell I can understand as I’m also lukewarm on her but Gram and Arthur Lee??!

Gram - country music.

 

I'm a huge prog fan but don't really get into Porcupine Tree, Tool or Radiohead, and other bands of that ilk. Of course all very talented but something about their sound doesn't agree with me. Not enough spontaneity maybe?

 

That would be threadcrapping.

 

If I was really cool I'd be into Can, Neu, Faust, Amon Duul etc a lot more than I actually am.

In reality I've listened to 70s Genesis way more.

 

There are lots of threads on this forum that I just ignore, but the title of this one really bugs me.

It's probably already been stated, but "Supposed To Be Into" according to who/what? I just don't get that feeling. You either like something or you don't. Not everyone likes the same things or hears things the same way, so if you read about it and it sounds interesting, but you give it a chance and it just doesn't work for you, then move on.

I just don't get people trying (repeatedly) to get into something -- there is so much great music out there, I don't feel the need to "brainwash" myself into liking something that just doesn't grab me.

The other side of that, of course, is hearing something randomly and getting that "light bulb" moment of appreciation -- but I just don't think it should be forced.

That's just my two cents worth...

 

Honestly I care about just and only 5 or 6 Genesis' tracks IIRC (and the only album I kept with me is SEBTP). On the other hand I really love Amon Düül II .

 

That is the way I feel about Mozart... suppose to like him, but his music is a bit light for my taste...

I have still a lot to learn though, classical music is a HUGE subject....

I do like these German bands, but if I was super cool I would listen to them more and ditch the symphonic prog stuff.
