You are correct. However there are people on here who enjoy telling us about what they don't like, so that is how it is.

The way this topic can make some sense and be more interesting is if we look at it as "artists who 'on paper' seem like they'd be someone I love, but the just don't resonate with me for some reason."

So for example, say you love early Fleetwood Mac and the Yardbirds and John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and Savoy Brown and Chicken Shack and on and on. Somehow you've managed to overlook Ten Years After. You read about them. "On paper" they sound like they'd be right up your alley. But when you listen to them they just don't resonate with you. In that case it can be interesting to try to figure out why the artist in question isn't clicking with you, because it seems like they should, given your tastes.

with jazz, these are artists I should like, considering some of my tastes...but they don't do much for me

    Art Ensemble of Chicago
    Cecil Taylor (after mid-60s)
    Brad Mehldau
    Bill Evans

Absolutely none. If I'm drawn to an artist then I'm drawn. No pre-conceived notions or expectations were there.

I'm not even sure I'm "supposed to be into" the artists that I do care about!

I think it's about trying to be 'cool' when you are a rocker and hate pop.

When I was young Nirvanna was kind of the IN thing and people who liked that sort of music would lambaste people who like pop music.

Fast forward. Billie Eilesh is an 18 year old pop sensation at the moment. Who is a huge Billie fan? David Grohl. Nirvana's drummer and founder of the Foo Fighter. Who is another huge fan? Paul McCartney. Metallica loves Lady Gaga.

Point is like what you like who cares about what others think

Because most of the 5 bands are Blues, while Ten Years After is Blues Rock; that would be my guess.

I don't know - I guess because they are all hardworking talented artists who earned their status, but it is lost on me.

Most of Motown doesn't satisfy my desire for soul music, although some of it is decent pop.

Love Stevie Wonder though, but even then, not his earlier Motown stuff so much.

Beatles, Dylan, Stones. Said it before. Nothing wrong with them, i just like a lot of other stuff a lot more.

I take it 'supposed to' means people of my age and background always or nearly always like these artists.

AS far as generally respected bands go, I'm not really into the following:
    • The Who
    • Genesis
    • Arcade Fire
