I’m contemplating one of these MM’s for my turntable (kind of a mid-level LP12). I have taken to rehab-ing old tube receivers, all of which come with MM stages. Personally, i feel there is a certain charm in running an MM into one of these units despite that a nice MC with a step-up is technically better.

That being said, I’m interested in MM’s that do about 0.4mv or better (the old tube amps get a bit noisy on the Phono inputs if you really press the gain). Frankly, the Ortofon 2m series sound pretty darn nice in this rig, but I’ve had all four (red, blue, bronze and black), and I’d like a different flavor. I’ve never had an AT before.

Anybody have experience with either of these? I gather they differ mostly in the stylus (microline versus Shibata). How do AT MM’s sound compared to Ortofon 2M’s?
