I think it depends on how annoying the glitch is.

Kevin Gray used computer tools to correct tape warble sounds on a reissue of a Blue Note title, and that even was an 45rpm LP release. That passage would be ruined without the digital correction.

Shooting you would be a bit much... I for one vote for a good old-fashioned flogging!

True and true. But I don't see a problem with 1.5 seconds of digital intervention myself. If the master tape is truly sacrosanct, why do anything at all during the mastering process? Steve certainly has no problem running the tapes through a "warming" tube array which certainly adds something (more analog coloration I guess) that wasn't on the master. Anyway, it's not a bid deal- just something interesting to discuss. Carry on.

 

Don't get me wrong, I use a DAW in my everyday work.
