Another option is the mono CD from the mono box.

I find I actually prefer the stereo CD on most of the songs (and I generally prefer the "electric Dylan" albums in mono). The mono JWH was the only one I owned for years until I got a used 80s CD. It has the same qualities of the mono mix (maybe even fatter bass) with more depth. Great drums, vocals, bass, and even fairly well-tamed harmonica.

No idea what they were thinking with the SACD, but I find it nearly impossible to believe the 80s CD is an augmented version of the mix on the SACD. As Steve mentioned, there's distortion on the SACD that isn't on the 80s disc. I don't know how that would happen, but the original JWH CD is a delight. I can't wait to hear the cuts with Steve's mastering.

The mono is still great if I want to listen with one earphone. ;)

BTW, it's an honor to have Al here. Hope he'll autograph a copy of the Dylan for our giveaway!

Good to hear about the transition between TIALT and WIPMM. Will be great to hear what that Town Hall tape sounds like in Steve's hands.

This is what bugs me about these forums- there's always some know-nothing guy who thinks he has to chime in on everything.

    TIALT and WIPMM?

I wish people would post the full titles instead of acronyms.

Take a look at who wrote the original message of "Turn the organ up". You'll understand why the "know-nothing guy" comment was made in jest. Arnie

Agreed! Does it take too long to press the keys to spell out Typing Is A Lost Trait? or When Initals Provoke Memory Mistakes?

It is a treat if Alvis is Al Kooper - and that's what Steve seems to be saying.

It's Al. I PM'd him the day he joined. Great guy, former Nashville resident, been a part of my musical life longer than most anyone else.

Likewise, I guess. Although he was on a lot of albums I liked as a "supporting" musician (not being critical - but I did not pay much attention), he really became to me an artist I loved and admired with "Child is Father to the Man", which was a landmark in my musical development. My mother had an electric organ in the house, but I could not make it sound like Al's Hammond. Then later on, "Super Session" was a fantastic album that I literally played to death, but have never gotten sick of. I'm not meaning to sell Mr Kooper short - but those two records stand tall in my collection.

Don't really mean to take up space here on a Dylan thread, but Al has a great show on the Morton Report called New Music For Old People (it ain't all new music either, he throws a little old stuff in as well ;-)... Check it out!
