Faith Coloccia & Philip Jeck - Stardust (Touch download, 2021) Coloccia pressed her vocals to dubplates and sent them to Jeck, who used his multi-turntable setup to manipulate them.
Halversonics by Tom Carter/ Ingebrigt Haker Flaten/ Lisa Cameron 2019 Tom Carter: Guitar Ingebrigt Haker Flaten: Electric bass Lisa Cameron: Drums The description says this was a warmup for a trio record coming on Self Sabotage Records, but I couldn’t find that anywhere. I do have the Astral Spirits release from last year though… That might need to be next up.
Tau Ceti Tom Carter/ Ingebrigt Haker Flaten/ Lisa Cameron 2020, Astral Spirits I hadn’t listened to this in awhile… Really a great recording. Edit: This was also recorded at Halversonics… Must have been the session referred to in my previous post. This album picks up some SERIOUS steam by the end, wow.
Tyshawn Sorey - Pillars 2018, Firehouse 12 Records I took my first shot at this album this morning... I figured it might be a challenging listen. It certainly demanded patience and attention but it was a really nice, almost relaxing listen. It's pretty incredible. I'm through the first disc and looking forward to the next two.
Rodrigo Amado This Is Our Language Quartet - Let The Free Be Free 2021, Trost Records Rodrigo Amado – tenor saxophone Joe McPhee - pocket trumpet, soprano saxophone, pvc pipe Kent Kessler – double bass Chris Corsano - drums This is so good. I've found that albums with any of these musicians are excellent, and the four of them together are perfect.
Rodrigo Amado Motion Trio & Alexander von Schlippenbach - The Field 2021 Just released today... I like this a lot so far.
Playfield Vol. 1: Sonar 2021, Orbit577 Daniel Carter: Horns and Reeds Luisa Muhr: Voice Ayumi Ishito: Sax Eric Plaks: Nord piano Aron Namenwirth: Guitar Yutaka Takahashi: Guitar Zach Swanson: Bass Jon Panikkar: Drums I've had this for awhile, but this is my first time through. It's like a much lighter version of Pillars. There are a ton of musicians but everyone isn't playing all the time. There's plenty of space and the guitars in particular sound excellent. Will check out the other two volumes soon.
I saw you post Vol. 3 last week I think... That's what reminded me to check them out. The other series I've been slacking on is "Curated by Nick Vander". I bet there are some gems in there.
Who knew?...it was an actual 'last name'???? Zaila Avant-garde Makes Spelling History, and Other Moments From the Bee
Radical Invisibility by Daniel Carter, Stelios Mihas, Irma Nejando, Federico Ughi 2019, 577 Records Listened to this album for the first time earlier today. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say this is avant-garde, but there's some really creative guitar work that sometimes gets dissonant. Overall it's an excellent recording worth checking out.
Got this last week and realised that it was recorded a few days before I saw them in London in 2017 - two of the photos were taken by the resident photographer at the Cafe Oto gig. One of those outfits that record occasionally when they can find the time to get together - there's a lot of them these days and far fewer regular bands that stay together all the time. Have they done four - I can only count three!
