I like their work and saw them play at Cafe Oto a couple of times - and when I looked up my gig list I saw that the last time was nearly 5 years ago!
This is incredibly good… You inspired me to pick it up last year and I’ve listened to it a lot. Every now and then I forget about it, then I’ll remember and put on one of the tracks.
Ulrich Krieger - Wall of Sound: Drones Patterns Noises (Sub Rosa 3CD, 2020) Krieger plays solo and overdubbed wind instruments on pieces by (among others) Alvin Lucier, Terry Riley, and Lee Ranaldo. This is sort of a compilation, in that some of the tracks have been previously released, but not all.
William Parker - Mayan Space Station 2021, AUM Fidelity William Parker: bass, compositions Ava Mendoza: electric guitar Gerald Cleaver: drums
In which one of the Earth's best horn players(Shiroishi) takes on many other instruments/noisemakers, including electric toothbrush.
Yeah I was thinking the same... He is relentless on this album. I love the trio format here. For the most part I enjoyed Migration of Silence Into and Out of The Tone World, but a lot of the vocal music isn't really my thing. This, on the other hand, is right in my wheelhouse.
And, if you're like me and need to hear more of what the great Ava Mendoza has to offer, you could do far worse then this recently released nugget. Less trad pyrotechnic, more free, Derek Bailey/Keith Rowe. Death In the Gilded Age, by fluke-mogul / Liberatore / Mattrey / Mendoza
Home Normal is a fantastic ambient record label. I subscribed to get their releases on Bandcamp a few years ago, but never listened to this one. I'll definitely check this out soon. Thanks!
For those who are interested in Home Normal, their early releases (of which Midpoint is one) are currently available for pay-what-you-want. I believe that is a limited-time offer, but am not sure when it ends.
