Ahead of the All That Dust launch gig for their latest batch of releases on Sunday, I thought I'd dig out one from their last batch. Anthony Pateras - celeste, harpsichord Erkki Veltheim - viola, mandolin The title is a reference to the fact these are secondary to their main instruments of piano and violin.
Went to Cafe Oto last night to see one of those occasional bands that meet up and record seldom but are always required listening when they're around. And this was on sale so of course I had to take it home...the last time they were at Oto, it produced their previous album also on 577. Superb performance last night. Rachel Musson - Tenor sax Pat Thomas - Piano Mark Sanders - Drums / Percussion

Sascha Rosemarie Höfer - Le Traviate Höfer uses different sound sources and recording processes. One of his focus points is the collection of sounds and noises, which he predominantly records analogue and very rudimentary on tape, various voice recorders and microphones he holds dear. Höfer is collecting sounds indoors or in the field. Usually en passant. “I like to listen if something interesting catches my ear, but not obsessively. I collect sounds, when I feel like it, not because a certain sound may be extraordinarily exquisite, making me want to trace it. I would regard that as a disruption of the moment, something I generally want to avoid. All works are related in one way or another. That is a desired and progressive feature that generally runs through my artistic work.“ For „Le Traviate“ he used sound images and single tracks from old recordings partly of former projects that haven’t been finished or (officially) released yet. He cut out instruments, modified and arranged them with material from dictaphone recordings, added noises and did some collages till he had created something new out of the old. The aged recordings and former compositions had given up their carved way, they have lost it if you will say so, and finally found their home years later in a completely different musical environment.
Recorded in April 1990 in performance in Zurich and Basel, this would appear to be Lou Gare's last outing with AMM and his first since the performance at the Unity Theatre in 1975 that was issued on To Hear and Back Again. Guitar, Electronics – Keith Rowe Percussion – Eddie Prévost Piano – John Tilbury Tenor Saxophone, Violin – Lou Gare
And I'm off to see Irreversible Entanglements tomorrow night in London...second time I've seen them, the first being at Cafe Oto where Pat Thomas sat in.
Irreversible Entanglements - Open the Gates 2021, International Anthem This is incredible! I think it's my favorite album of theirs to this point. Wow.
