On the great Leo Records. Who BTW are holding a year end sale with much of their catalog discounted from deeply. Well worth a look. LEO RECORDS: Music for the Inquiring Mind and the Passionate Heart
Caveat emptor. The last time I ordered a bunch of CDs direct from Leo, what they sent me were (still shrinkwrapped) discs that looked like they'd been stored in a puddle. The staples were all badly rusted, the booklets were all severely rippled and they all smelled like a rank fishtank.
Sounds like part of my CD collection (thankfully a small part), after a 60 gallon aquarium fell over and smashed during an earthquake.
Interesting. Well I put in a small order (less then $25) before I read your comments . When I report back hopefully it will be with a more positive result.
I've bought from their sale several times, and not had this problem. Always received new discs in perfect condition. I think you were very unlucky. Still, at those prices.......
Stroboscope Larry Ochs Mars Williams Julien Desprez Mathieu Sourisseau Samuel Silvant Dual saxophones from the American masters meets electric guitar, bass & drums from Europe 39 minutes of brilliance care of the Bridge Sessions The best of the series that I’ve heard
I'll buy anything with Daniel Carter on it. This is an excellent new release of him playing with the NYC guitar/drum duo. Live at Legion Hall, by Maximum Ernst

Quite wonderful cacophony of guitar/sax/drums. Electric guitarist Akiyama particularly creates a battery of Frith like sounds and effects that make this recording wonderfully fresh and exciting. Interpersonal Subjectivities, by Akiyama / Field / Vidic
Julia Wolfe's new oratorio Fire in my Mouth, about the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire is so very compelling. I listened to the recording several times last weekend. The music is haunting and obsessive - the tragedy itself is present in the score. Definitely a powerful listen.
Thanks for these Wolfe recommendations. Looking forward to hearing them both. On the classical/composition spectrum I'm been re-engaging with these works. Both highly enjoyable. I'm more of a chamber guy then orchestra/symphonic, so these both really appeal to me and are highly recommended. Just got my order. Thankfully they are perfect. All shrink wrapped, no bad smells, no torn booklets. I'm very pleased.
