I played with Don Dietrich and Jim Sauter in the late 70’s. Just before the first Bornetomagus record was recorded. I own a few of their recordings. Don is a successful Allstate insurance executive.
You are not the only one , the same goes for Hurrah ! At some point I even had the two albums on Trick Bag but was foolish enough to give them away - I still have all the 7" singles ,Boomy Tella and their reunion album is pretty good too
I would only guess this for artists who are really obscure. I wouldn't guess that I'm the only fan here of anyone that even a couple handfuls of others are familiar with. An example would be bands like Kombinat M or Kids Eat Crayons.
Man oh man! They are one of my all time favorites. They inspired me (along with Brotzmann, Ayler, and Pharoah) to start playing sax. They are truly a force to be reckoned with as a live group, especially when the horns are amplified. That's incredible that you played with those dudes!!! I knew Don was in insurance, one time when researching them I came across a page for his Allstate office! There was even an interview with him to advertise his services, totally surreal!!
Yeah, it's very sad to think how much talent he had and what might have been. An old friend of mine and I used to go to Tower Records a few times a week back in the day. I would just look around and see what "album" (CD) covers caught my eye and would buy one album each trip just based on that, that's how I ended up discovering Ephraim.
VerseQuence comprises Filipino lyricist/melodist Avieri and melodist/vocaloid producer MJQ. VerseQuence uses vocaloid Hatsune Miku, English to create lovely songs in English and/or Tagalog. I suspect I'm the only fan of VerseQuence and a gazillion other vocaloid producers here, but I could be surprised. Anyhow VerseQuence is probably one of the more obscure bands I really like.
I would suggest buying the 3CD box containing all their material and being done with it. Anyway: their debut Number One would be a good start, although FWIW I started with their final album Free Psychedelic Poster Inside, which all flows together into a 50 minute piece. Much of it makes me think of what Whitehouse might’ve been like if William Bennett was a beat poet rather than a pervert, all piercing sine waves and distorted vocals, interspersed with pulsing Moogs and cutups...
I haven’t listened to them in a long time but I had one or two of their CDs back in the 90s. Always enjoyed “callin in sick”
Bands I thought made incredible records who rarely get mentioned on here: Material Issue The Fags The Chalets The Jazz Butcher (RIP) The Exploding Hearts
I feel pretty confident about these two. I could list a million short lived bands that my friends were in when I was a kid, but that feels like cheating. These bands at least released music on reputable labels and toured. Pollen Burnman
I haven't seen anyone else here mention Spinning Jennies or Bear Attack, or my high school classmate Mike Verge.
Hmmm, I'd guess there's few if any fans here of the following semi-obscure bands I really like: Demolition Doll Rods The Lords Of Altamont Black Halos T-Ride Drenge The Glitterati Belfegore 1919
The sister of Ian Gillan had a band back in the early/mid 80s, Pauline Gillan's Northern Dancer being the name of the band..I saw them at a rock club called Stairways in Birkenhead near Liverpool UK and from what i can remember she wasn't particularly good ..I am not a fan of her, just wondering if anyone out there on the forum is a fan or has seen her in concert?
A Place To Bury Strangers. If you're not already familiar with them please investigate wherever you can.
