I would think most Oldies fans here would know The Gentrys for "Keep On Dancing", The Swingin' Medallions for "Double Shot Of My Baby's Love", The Tams for "What Kind Of Fool (Do You Think I Am)", and Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs for "Stay". And I would think even more would know Joe South for writing songs such as "Games People Play", "Rose Garden", "Down In The Boondocks" and "Hush".
You will probably like what's come after those 2 albums, in fact earlier this year they just put out a new EP 'Hologram' that is almost like a primer for the different styles they tend to play. It's an affordable re-entry to their catalog and you'll only have to backtrack a couple more albums from there. Plus, they tour regularly and justify the use of earplugs, in a good way!!
Seeing as how my tastes run toward very progressive and avant-garde, I am sure there are many. Here's a few from several genres/subgenres. Avant-prog: Akineton Retard (Chile) Francois Breant (France) Curlew (USA) Miriordor (Canada) Thinking Plague (USA) Zeuhl: Corima (USA) Setna (France) Koenji Hyakkei (Japan) Runaway Totem (Italy) Fusion: Iceberg (Spain) Slivovitz (Italy) Octafish (Germany) McGill/Manring/Stevens (USA) Alex Machecek (Austria/USA) Jazz: Joann Brackeen (USA) Tomasz Stanko (Poland) Craig Taborne (USA) Tim Berne and Snakeoil (USA)
Some uncomfortable listening. My friend is really into them, so I helped with track down a bunch of their rare recordings.
I have their last album Stratosphere. The songs "Jetfighter", "Speak Now and Be Afraid", and the untitled final (12th) track are all very good.
Fairly big fan of Cracker and have seen them live 3-4 times since about 2015. Also own a few Cake songs.
Their one North American album on Elektra was really good. Also, I recall that Creem’s offshoot mag METAL has a running joke where every issue (after the first couple or so) mentioned Belfegore on the cover but they never actually ran a story on the band.
