It's frustrating, Ali and Astro had the voices but the other lot had a better sound. Although a lot of it is triggered by Jimmy on drums, guitar parts, keyboard parts and loops. I quite like that Ali is totally live.
Putting to one side the tragic circumstances of Richey Edwards disappearance, I do think Everything Must Go is peak Manics. Whilst I admire The Holy Bible, boy is it a tough listen.
They were actually very good, but more 'avant-garage'. Richard definitely had the songs and persona but his bass-playing acumen was pretty limited.
Agree. I do love the Richey-era work, especially the first two albums. Holy Bible is great but like you say it’s hard to sit thru as it’s so relentlessly dark. The album has such an eerie vibe to it like there’s darkness just flowing through the whole thing. Even some of the heaviest darkest metal doesn’t affect me the way Holy Bible does. I agree that Everything Must Go is their masterpiece. This is My Truth is a close second for me too.
Although I really enjoy "Electronic Meditation", I think most would agree that Tangerine Dream got "better" after the departure of Klaus Schulze
Yes. But Klaus "the icon" of Tangerine Dream? Especially in a line-up that includes Conrad Schnitzler - alongside Mr. Froese?
Not really an icon, but Ian McDonald was the original leader of King Crimson on their illustrious debut, but I think they ultimately rose to greater heights after he left.
Very good point. I guess I wasn't thinking of when icon status was achieved. So in the case of "having icon status" while in the band, my point is indeed pointless
Imho Dickey Betts is the most melodic guitar players EVER. When he and the ABB split I thought they were crazy. Don’t know the reason for it. But after a few years I realized that the ABB went back to their roots which I liked. The post reunion albums had some songs that were vintage Allmans. But a lot of it wasn’t. I know many will disagree with me. But that final lineup was incredible.

Definitely Stones after Brian Jones I wouldn't go as far as to say post-Green Fleetwood Mac, primarily because I much prefer Green era FM, but I will say Bob Welch was more than a worthy replacement, that whole middle era where he and Christine carried the songwriting was actually a fantastic period that turned out some excellent records (primarily Bare Trees and Mystery to Me).
