You're getting a lot of quotes because you've selected a bunch of artists who don't fit the thread at all.

If you make the observation, you should be able to explain/back it up. You can't claim that "The Clash" and "Sandinista!" are the same album or "Greetings" and "Nebraska" are the same album without some ability to say more...

I really can't imagine how people think that Steely Dan or Radiohead albums all sound the same.

There's a whole heap of difference between Can't Buy A Thrill and Countdown to Ecstasy let alone between them and say Aja or Gaucho! Even the fact that there are multiple singers on CBAT and only Fagen on the next is one obvious difference.

And Kid A sounds the same as Pablo Honey or The Bends? Right...

My impression is that almost every band that ever recorded an album for public consumption had varyng limits as to what they were interested in branching out into stylistically. Most of them are really a one act play, some have some different interests, some go on tangents everywhere, etc. Let's face it, most humans are limited in their mental excursions into the world, why would musicians be any different in the musical world?

That's why a lot of my albums are single albms from this or that act who, to me, only came up with one song or one album I consider worth my time and money. Others just had a knack for different music that continued to pique my interest beyond the initial exposure but they are the exception. I am, however, greatful for the music that people who got it right just once or twice made, though.

  7. I think some are going on the fact that Bob as a solo singer always uses the same voice, Bob's. This probably shouldn't count against him.

And if he always sounded the same, why did people call him Judas when they imagined incorrectly that he had changed his style? :nyah:

AC/DC. I like them but every album is basically the same. Yet I still enjoy everyone of them

I thought it was just me. I’ve only heard a little of their music and my impression has always been “seriously what am I missing that others think they are great”

Even then, his voice and delivery changed too depending on the album. Off the top of my head, the Nashville Skyline voice is completely different to what came before, the Basement Tapes voice is different and others varied depending on the style/content of the album. I think that there is a difference between people being so familiar with the recognizable 'Bob voice' and the reality.

Blackmore's Night. The only CD of theirs that I can tell apart from the others is their Christmas one, for obvious reasons.

So far I think some interesting candidates have emerged in this thread. Some obvious (AC/DC, arguably The Ramones), a few I wouldn't have thought of but make sense (i.e. The New Pornographers). But most of what I see here is people just listing artists whose catalogs they aren't really familiar with or simply don't like.

I think you're poking fun here, but taking seriously, even that argument would make no sense, as Dylan sported a mix of vocal styles over the year. As did Springsteen.

"Lay Lady Lady" literally sounds like an entirely different person than the Dylan that preceded it!

I don't know, the last album he released while alive, In Step, moved to slicker production and more radio-friendly songs. But it certainly was not a radical change in sound.

Some people are just referencing artists they don't like.I Don't like opera and thus it all sounds the same to me-but I have it on good authority that it actually doesn't.There are artists referred to here who have very different sounding tracks on their albums from different genres with divergent instrumentation-like The Clash and Abba,so I would suggest that they don't fit.If the song writing is top quality,I would suggest bands like Steely Dan can be discounted. For me,as much as I like Van Morrison, the template has stayed the same for too many years.I agree with other suggestions like AC/DC,early Dylan and Beach boys..and add The supremes(amongst a slew of Motown acts) and a boat load of 1980s heavy metal bands.

I suppose you could probably find a lot of solo guitarists that basically make the same album over and over. Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter, etc.

I used to think that all Chuck Berry was pretty much the same which may be true for his singles. Listening to his box set & the songs that didn't make the radio prove this to be very untrue.

True for their singles, however, their albums show them to be much more diverse

Enya. Not a lot of deviation from the formula but she never did anything I didn't love.
Melanie also didn't have a lot of variation until around 1980 when she got a little edgier and rockier.
To a degree, John Denver (although I have 26 of his albums that are all keepers).

    we must agree to disagree.

i find just about all of his singing and writing to be quite bland.

T Rex to me made the same song over & over but I haven't heard the albums for a long time.
Bo Diddley is another artist who seems to me to be on permanent repaet but in saying that there are not to many bands that haven't been influenced by his famous beat.
