The Best American Classic Rock Bands thread prompted me to start this thread as a mention was made of The Band. There are many other cross-border bands that came to prominence in the 60's, 70's and later years as well, and not just in Classic Rock.

Off the top of my head I can think of several:

    The Band
    Buffalo Springfield
    CSN&Y
    The Mamas & The Papas
    Steppenwolf
    Blood, Sweat & Tears

What others can you add to this list?

The drummer for Strapping Young Lad was from Dallas, Texas while the band was Canadian. It's a lot easier now to have band members from different countries in band thanks to the internet.

Just an example, though not American/Canadian, is Kamelot:

Sean Tibbetts (Bass) - Tampa, Florida
    Thomas Youngblood (Guitars) - USA
Casey Grillo (Drums) - Enid, Oklahoma
    Oliver Palotai (Keyboard) - Germany
    Tommy Karevik(vocals) - Sweden

The Mynah Birds, a Canadian R&B band in the 60s (who famously also included Neil Young for a stint), had Rick James - an American - in the lineup.

The 80s "supergroup" Alias contained ex-Heart members Roger Fisher, Steve Fossen and and Mike DeRosier (all American), along with Canadians Freddy Curci and Steve DeMarchi (ex-Sheriff).

    One more...

The band S.U.N. (Something Unto Nothing) contains lead singer Sass Jordan (Canadian), along with Americans Brian Tichy, Michael Devin and Tommy Stewart.

  12. Hardly famous, but one of my favorite bands is The Blue Shadows from Vancouver, BC with lead vocalist Bill Cowsill from the USA:

I guess we need to include Screamin' Ronnie Hawkins since we mentioned The band.

Original punk era punk band The Diodes: singer was American, bassist and drummer were Canadian. I'm not sure if ex-pat Brit guitarist John Catto was Canadian or still British. Certainly a homegrown Toronto band.
