That Court and Spark pressing is a real gem. Especially at $11.50. Enjoy!

When I returned home, I compared these pressings to what I would have paid on Amazon:

    B&N = $34.97
    Amazon = $68.78

    Winning!

FYI, the 10 percent membership discount doesn't apply to the 50 percent off vinyl. At least, that's what I was told. It applies to the half off Criterion sale, so kinda odd.

^^^ Right, that has been discussed upstream. The only time the 10% kicks in is when B&N honors a discount on a mis-marked album.

BTW, I had time but chose to drive past a B&N today that I normally don't go to. A small gesture of restraint.

I bought Singles Original Motion Picture Soundtrack deluxe edition 2LP + 1CD for $15. Of course, with a CD packaged in with the records, both LPs are warped. But the warps are inaudible, so I'm keeping it. It really is a pretty good pressing, nice to finally own on vinyl.

The 10% membership discount appears to be applied on a store-by-store basis. They gave me the 10% discount on top of the 50% mark-off.

Joni was a dirty girl, so she got a thorough cleaning today. Actually, all of my vinyl gets a thorough cleaning...nothing bad to report about my pressing. Listening and ripping right now...man, this thing sounds really good! Excellent purchasing decision. :righton:

Yes the 10% works in some stores. The media manager told me today that each store may have some different titles at 50% off. One store had ( until I purchased) Peter Gabriel numbered Security where as another store scan was at full price ( I believe$35). Good deals on the non big selling Pink Floyd titles.

Would it make sense to start a list of these items that are on sale? I understand many vary by store, but it could make quick work out of creating a "shopping list" of sorts of titles known to be on sale. Some sale titles may be misplaced or not in the sale section...would be worth having them scanned for a price check if you run across one on the list.

they actually honored the extra 10% for me - the stickers they used for 50% off also said members save an additional 10%. At first they didn’t take it off but when I mentioned it, they did. They mentioned something about using old stickers. Lucky me!

I did purchase it and completely agree. I've had the original since 1977 or 78 and it's obviously been played quite a bit (albeit with quality carts, etc.). My initial impressions, based on just one back-to back comparison, is that they are very similar in volume level and tone, with the new one having a bit more "sharpness" on percussion. The guitars, esp. on Guineverre, sound clean and definitely not digital, even though I gather this release is not AAA. The burgundy vinyl is not solid, but has some black patches, which I am certain is intentional since the cover photo has some "charcoal" elements as well. Very nice presentation over all.

So much of this could be avoided if BN used stickers that were pre-scored so that it would be obvious if a customer removed a sticker from an LP the store marked at 50% and placed it on a non-discounted LP in the hope of "gaming" the store. We've all seen these stickers universally used in retail.

That makes sense in explaining the situation I've experienced (up-thread).
    Thanks.

Maybe someone at HQ read this thread ;) No luck with the price check re. any unmarked lps at a couple of nearby stores. Just those marked 50% off are being discounted.

I got the Joni a few years ago, and it does indeed sound better than the standard CD. Enjoy!

fmfxray373 Capitol LPs in the 70s were pretty good.

Or a record that has sat in the bins in BN for well over a year.
There are few records at my store where the shrink wrap is falling off but they are still on sale.
The important thing is how does the record sound?

Addison, Tx B & N, LOADS of 50% off, segregated in the front 2 rows of the 4 row shelves. Scored these 3 (on top of 15 at various other B & Ns)

Dawes, All You Favorite Bands, 180g, MP3 download, $10

Steve Earle, I Feel Alright, 180g, $11.50. Also, his newest, So You Wanna Be An Outlaw, is 1/2 off but I'd bought that at full price at a record store 2 years ago

Creedence, Cosmo's Factory, European Import, NOT Hoffman remaster, may take it back, $15
They had another one for $10, different UPC #. Doubt if it was the Hoffman/Gray remaster either

    I've seen none at 4 Atlanta-area stores.
None of the staff knows how long this sale will go on; it could be months, so perhaps various titles will rotate in and out of the discount over time.
