    Michael I LOVE WIDE S-T-E-R-E-O!

It doesn't matter to me as long as the diseased Gilesfied cuts were not included...

    John Byrne I thought?

EDIT: I just looked it up and saw Bryne credited himself as Patrick for that piece. We’re both right!

I've always thought it was criminal that Strawberry Fields isn't on 1. It almost ruins the whole thing for me.

Kick out Long and Winding Road at the end and close with Let It Be. Then throw SFF after Hello/Goodbye where it belongs.

There are literally FOUR McCartney tracks in a row there.

    It would be interesting to see if a full length ‘2’ album could be assembled with the same criteria as ‘1’: ie using ONLY No. 2 hits on either the UK or US charts. Which Beatles songs hit this position in either of these countries? (That weren’t already on ‘1’ that is!). Off the top of my head, I can think of;

    UK;

Please Please Me (depending which chart you read)
    Strawberry Fields Forever
    Free As A Bird

Any others? Did they have any US no.2s?

I think the time is right for a two CD best of. The red and blue albums really don’t utilize the space. Plus I’d love to see a non-chronological set compiled by the Beatle people.

I really like the idea of a potential Beatles 2 album being a 2-disc set. Since they didn't have enough #2 hits to fill an album (maybe an EP), at least the "2" can be a play on the number of discs. Plus, it is nearly impossible to narrow down a track list do just one disc without leaving out crucial songs.

You have a great list. I wouldn't change a whole lot.

At first glance, I would probably add "Do You Want to Know a Secret" (a #2 hit in the US), "Blackbird" (one of their most streamed songs), and "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" (a favourite of critics). I'd probably remove "Girl," "Julia" and "Old Brown Shoe" to make room.

Please Please Me’s omission is criminal. It was their first number one somewhere. And if not, they made some weird chart shifting to get Eight Days a Week, Yesterday, and maybe even Paperback Writer by some counts.

I much prefer Nowhere Man to 8 Days if using U. S. singles.

The whole concept is pretty simple, the song had to be no1 to make the album. SFF didn't qualify.

    The horror!

    Nope.

Please Please Me (song) - Wikipedia

All were no1's in the US, the single biggest market for both Beatle singles and the 1 album.

Paperback Writer was a no1 in 9 countries, Eight Days a Week in 4 and Yesterday in 5. They are worthy additions to an album celebrating the Beatles no1 songs.

    Your Beatles '2' tracklist

In my abominable sloth, I'll repost the same list, a running order I lovingly compiled onto MiniDisc back in the day:

    05 Roll Over Beethoven

I think there should be a full album side's worth of White Album tracks...anything less is grossly under-representative. The ones I'd use:

    USSR
    Dear Prudence
    Ob-la-di
    While My Guitar
    Happiness is A Warm Gun
    Blackbird
    Sexy Sadie
    Birthday or Yer Blues

...these are not necessarily my favorites in every case...but i think they best "show" the album.

The premise of this thread is odd.

Beatles 1 is all their number 1 hits in the US or UK. So I don't know what Beatles 2 would be ... the songs that only made it to #2?

    Probably better than Beatles 1.

What is the theme? The 1 album, Blue, Red, Love songs, Rock 'n Roll compilations all had themes, what is the theme to this album? How do they market it?

Well let's see - SFF peaked at UK #2 and US #8.

So what exactly was the "crime" in not including SFF on an album that collects UK & US #1 singles?

The crime of accuracy? The crime of setting a criteria for what to include/exclude and rigidly sticking to it?

I really don't understand at all why people complain about the tracklist of "1" - aside from egotism I guess - "How dare they do EXACTLY what they set out to do (ie - having a - clearly stated and defined in the liner notes - criteria and sticking to it rigidly)? Why didn't they instead read my mind and include only the tracks that I personally feel "deserve" to be there?"
