Are "MFSL" not interested in all these Ebay shenanigans(Piracy!!!)

    Apparently not!

P.S. It is a shame that they did not materialize legitimately as they look quite cool!

Is it from a MFSL vinyl needle drop or from some other souped up source?

  4. Putting the catalogue number into Google brings up links to two sites talking about bootlegs, and nothing else. How transparent can it get?

Give a guy a graphics program, a scanner, and a color printer, and you never know what you'll get!

But how come you have three major players, The Beatles, EMI, and Mobil Fidelity, who do little or nothing to stop these auctions? These are counterfeits being passed off as something "rare and out of print".

Doesn't seem like people are staying away from them either. You would think people would wise up to the fact sooner or later....

I think there are 2 markets for this stuff, the ignorant and the sophisticated. (I would hope no one would take offense at those terms - I mean them quite literally, with no value judgement to either.)

The ignorants may believe these to be what they "purport" to be, a real MFSL super-sound release of Revolver, or an "original" EMI promo release of GET BACK, or the Capitol CD of Beatles 65.

The sophisticates see them for what they are, ie., un-authorized versions - often needle-drops and usually lovingly packaged - of the product that the powers-that-be refuse to release, and fill a void in the collection.

I won't try to justify the prices these go for, but we've all paid too much for that one disk we just had to have.

So one person may see a rip-off, another a very desirable offering. As someone noted the other day, that is why they have menus.

Yes, get out the magnifying glass, fire up your reference sources (whether they are online or bound paper), and even then, cross your fingers.

Even when you think you know, it is not always easy to know what it is, and one is certainly bound to lose a few. One of my losses was what appeared to be a real Vigotone NO. 3 ABBEY ROAD, with the printed disc pictured. I won it at a reasonable price (I thought), but when I got it, it was a CD-R with inkjet inserts and a clear printed label.

Obviously, MFSL does care as they shut down tons of the auctions every week. I'm assuming that when a MFSL Beatles auction disappears, it is most likely MFSL who shut it down. Why don't you give MFSL a call and have them explain how many they shut down last week? Alexpop, do a little research before you slam a company you know nothing about. You have no idea whether or not MFSL or any other company is trying to have them shutdown. Do you know how the Vero program works? Did you notice that there were a series of ebay.de auctions for Beatles cd titles that was shut down last week? The internet allows space for everyone to say anything they what.

I don't understand your reasoning here. We are being warned about "fake MFSL's" and you're opposed this somehow? Please explain.

I checked ebay.com 21.18PM Monday night (my time) and was surprised to see a handful of MFSL Beatles cds low prices to high.
It must be frustrating for MFSL( the company) to see these titles on
    display.

Just out of curiosity I also checked ebay.de ....and low and behold....

6 Gold MFSL Beatles titles no photo scan I wonder why?

I'm not against warning people against buying fake MFSL product. Without a doubt, that's exactly what you would do for anyone entering the collectable market.

My problem is that the discussion automatically began with "obviously MFSL does not care about fake products on Ebay." For example,

Are "MFSL" not interested in all these Ebay shenanigans(Piracy!!!)

    Apparently not!

But how come you have three major players, The Beatles, EMI, and Mobil Fidelity, who do little or nothing to stop these auctions? These are counterfeits being passed off as something "rare and out of print".

This is where I have a problem. Immediately, there are two responses which point the finger at the record labels without having any information. How do you know that the labels aren't doing anything to prevent fraud? Have you written or emailed any of the companies regarding the trademark/copyright violations? Have they stopped the auctions? What would the motive be for a record label to "allow" bootlegged items to sell on Ebay? Do you realize that copyright/trademark law is very similar to property law? Everytime someone sells one of those products they take a little part of your property (i.e. trademark/copyright) with them.

Just because there are trademark/copyright infringements on Ebay does not mean that the company is allowing them to exist. Ebay Vero does not "police" the site. Each trademark owner has to file a complaint with Vero in order to have an auction removed. This takes many hours and a lotta luck to find every infringement in every language.

I think you are honestly reading something in to nothing. What I see is fellow members asking questions, offering advice, and telling of their experiences.

We all know what's what with these, and that they are what they are. You'll also notice that that auction is no more. :)
