I recently bought my Beatles Mono Box from Best Buy. Upon opening and looking at the spine texts, I noticed the Sgt. Pepper’s upside-down. When I removed it for inspection I found it was right-side up and the text was reversed. Do other authentic mono box owners have this reversed spine print or did I get hit with a fake? Thanks!

That's how they all are. It's how it was originally manufactured.

The original mono LP had the text running from bottom to top of the spine also. It's a design feature, not a flaw. ;)

That's how it was originally, then they decided to change it for the 82 mono LP version...

I think that is how the original is.

If I'm not mistaken... and in case no one else has mentioned it yet... that's how it originally was...

So, it was originally like that when released?

    Is that what you're saying?

    Please clarify.

  10. I just noticed the OP has only one post. I hope we don't scare him off. Anyway, it's one of the reasons I really love the quality and effort that went into making these albums. They didn't need to include all the little touches, the music was enough, but that box's art is amazing.

If that were the sort of thing to scare someone off, I'd hate to see what they think when people disagree around here. :righton:

The text on the spine goes the "European" way, and there is no apostrophe, right?

When it was released originally, that's what it was like.

Everyone is correct, except for therockman who seems to be floating a guess, and Reb, who spelled +1 wrong.

There's such a thing as making a recreation too accurate. Repeating a mistake? Come on... [IMG]

Well someone at Parlophone/EMI thought it was a mistake in '82 when they 'corrected' it.

I wonder if they had any basis for thinking it was a mistake. Perhaps not - other than the fact that all other albums read top to bottom. If so, it should not have been "corrected."

The spine of the Mono Box version of Pepper also correctly duplicates the missing apostrophe.

Was the cutout sheet originally in the front opening of the gatefold? I would have thought it would have been placed in the rear along with the record.
