    Once more:

The decision isn't just up to EMI. A lot of different people have to agree. If just *one* says "no", the whole deal is off.

We don't know how all of the parties feel about Steve working on the catalog. The only person who even comes close is Steve, and even he may not know exactly what the story is/was. Whatever the case, it seems as if he doesn't want to address the issue any more, and all of this speculation isn't getting anyone any closer to remastered Beatles.

The "Torture Thread: The Greatest Releases That Should Have Been...." led me to this thread....

Feel free not to answer, Steve, but...

    mono, stereo or both!?

Curiosity getting the better of me, again.

    Best wishes,

    Nobby

Ya HAD to bring this up?

Stereo mix & mono mixes on each Gold CD for the original albums, including MMT and HEY JUDE/AGAIN. As for the rest of the "Past Masters" type stuff, that was never resolved.

Yeah, both on one disc, with the White Album being a "mini-box".

    Steve,

This should have happened....very, very unfortunate. I can visualize the wonderful results.

I sure wish that all of us here could pool our resources, abilities and talents in order to have you re-master the entire Beatles catalog....

    Bob:)

    Steve,

I feel as though I'm kicking a man where I shouldn't by asking more questions, but...

    What year were the "discussions"?

And do you think the original stereos of the first six will ever come out?

Or indeed, the monos of "Help" through to "White"?

I know the people at EMI are in a difficult position with all that goes on at Apple, but they have backtracked on a couple of things...

eg. The Red CD had the stereo field of Can't Buy Me Love reduced, but it's back "wide" on "1" (whatever you might think of it's mastering!)

So the story goes when the original vinyl EP box came out, a call came through from Abbey Road that the stereo mix of She's A Woman had been located, but it had a count in at the beginning.

The person in charge of the project said "Leave it in - it'll please some people out there".

    :) :)

    Cheers,

    Nobby

Can the Webmaster close this thread? It is much too depressing. Especially since I know that Steve would have used the correct mono dry mix of "Please Please Me" and "Ask Me Why" for the first time ever.

    This thread hurts.

Actually we wouldn't have made a friggin' dime and probably would have lost money in the end. Would have been neat though.

After the sucess of the Stones remaster... I'm sure EMI will do the Beatles backkatalog soon! They can make sooooo much profit...
