My current Top Five British Bands of the 1960's.

The Animals, Cream, The Zombies, The Dave Clark Five, The Yardbirds, complete my Top Ten

Cliff & The Shadows, The Searchers, The Bee Gees, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Small Faces, Freddie & The Dreamers, Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas, Them, Herman’s Hermits, etc. also close to my heart...

Moody Blues, Procol Harum, Traffic, Jethro Tull right on the cusp of the 1970s, same as Led Zep. Donovan was solo, Peter & Gordon, Chad & Jeremy not bands, Jimi Hendrix was American so I don't consider proper British band. Should I?

Can you please tell me yours? For a book I'm helping with. Appreciated.

My fave all time LP is the remix and remaster Jimmy Page put out in autumn 2017 called "Yardbirds '68" which is the band's Anderson Theater show from March '68 and the studio session they did a few days later.

Edit: had to bump the Move for Animals. Sorry, Roy!

I've often said "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago" is the most adventurous A-side ever released (Beck and Page's six-string collisions and ricochets combined with lyrics about reincarnation) but my favorite 45 is the Yardies "I'm a Man" b/w "Still I'm Sad"... chicken-chasing-steamroller rave-ups and Gregorian chants... what's not to love?

Zeppelin would be up there but since most of their output was from the 70s, I consider them a 70s group. I also love the Yardbirds but generally prefer the groups they spawned. I was also tempted to include the Jimi Hendrix Experience (they would probably knock the last two down a peg) but Jimi is American so even if the band is a majority English, its star was American.

    4. Nazareth
    5. The Hollies
