Beatles, Rolling Stones, Kinks, Who, Hollies are my 5 favorite 1960's British bands. Yours?

The 1960's really are dominated by The Beatles/The Rolling Stones and The Kinks. Then it's The Who and to a far lesser degree Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

    The Beatles
    The Rolling Stones
    The Kinks
    -----------------
    The Who
    Pink Floyd/Led Zeppelin

Looking forward to the book you are helping with Steve!

Though the list is malleable, my favorites are pretty solid:
    The Who
    The Yardbirds
    The Beatles
    The Rolling Stones
    The Kinks

I would have included the Small Faces, the Zombies and the Move here, but their output is slimmer. Love the Animals and the Pretty Things too!

Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Traffic, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Yes, and others seem to overlap in a more "'70's" territory - though I love (and collect!) them all.

Even though LZ got started in the 60's, I consider them a 70's group. They were heavy, grand scale, and an albums band... far closer to the 70's aesthetic.

I think most of us feel like we are in the same boat. On the other hand, the best are the best! The 60s were the only decades when the best music was also the most popular music.

I'd have to quibble about Them, though. They're from Belfast, which is in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom aka Britain... they recorded in England to boot... part and parcel of the British Invasion in my books... ymmv...

Moody Blues are a 60’s band to me. And very early Seventies with 1972’s Seventh Soujourn. But check out all of the classic albums they had in the Sixties:
The Moody Blues | Album Discography | AllMusic

    1. The Beatles
    2. The Moody Blues
    3. The Who, although they too edge into the early Seventies similar to the Moody Blues. Don’t like The Who like I used to.

I don’t rank the Kinks up there. Not a big Stones fan.

The British Invasion was The Beatles. Although there were plenty of good British bands from the Sixties. Herman’s Hermits SOUNDED British and were solid Sixties.

Same as yours except Animals nudge out Hollies. I have multiple releases from all the other groups on your list including your top ten but only compilation of the Hollies so maybe I am selling them short.

Never really been a Beatles fan, but I do like a lot of their songs.

Them - to me they are a “British Invasion Band” but ok they ARE Irish

Those are the only bands I am REALLY into.

    Jethro Tull
    The Beatles

I like enough to round out my top 5.

I understand placing Zeppelin in the 1970's -- partly because they became one of the biggest bands of the decade, plus unlike bands like The Kinks, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles, Zeppelin did not have strings of singles and hits during the 1960's, but they did release two phenomenal albums circa 1969 (with Led Zeppelin II considered a pioneering rock album), so technically they could make a 1960's list even though they did much more the following decade.
