    Great stuff.

I also like Vince Guaraldi's take on Eleanor Rigby, from his Alma-Ville album.

Tina Turner did a riveting version of "Help" when I saw her in concert a few years back. Much slower and you got the feeling that Tina's lived the words to the song.
A similar version is on the Private Dancer CD as a bonus cut, I think.

Is that the one where he sings it like Dr. Strangelove?

Bob Dylan did a nice version of "Something" last year. It could be heard on his website for a while (maybe it still is). It sounded like an audience recording (as did several other tunes on the site for listening only).

Neil Finn recorded a very fine version of "Two Of Us" with his son Liam. It's available on import copies of the "I Am Sam" soundtrack.

Jim Carrey does a fun version of "I Am The Walrus." Yes, Jim Carrey.

The Tubes - I Saw Her Standing There (What Do Want From Live)
The Rolling Stones - I Wanna Be Your Man (single)
World Party - Martha My Dear ( b side)
World Party - Happiness Is A Warm Gun (b side)
Paul Weller - Don't Let Me Down (Beatles tribute album)
The Jam - And Your Bird Can Sing (outtake)
Guadalcanal Diary - And Your Bird Can Sing (bonus track on the 2 x 4 CD)
Flamin' Groovies - And Your Bird Can Sing (Goldstar Tapes)
Throwing Muses - Everybody's Got Somethng To Hide Except Me And Monkey (IIRC, b side)
Billy Bragg - Revolution (Beatles tribute album)
Frank Sidebottom - Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite (Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father)
Yellow Magic Orchestra - Day Tripper (X00Multiplies)
Yukihiro Takahashi - It's All Too Much (early 1980s solo album from YMO drummer)
Hüsker Dü - Ticket To Ride (free NME 7 inch single, circa 1984/85)
Aimee Mann/Michael Penn - Two Of Us (I Am Sam Sndtrk)
Heather Nova - We Can Work It Out (I Am Sam Sndtrk)
Fiona Apple - Across The Universe (Pleasantville Sndtrk)
Hoodoo Gurus - A Hard Day's Night (Electric Chair)
Elivs Costello (solo) - All You Need Is Love (Live Aid July 1985)
Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Leave My Kitten Alone (outtake from Blood And Chocolate 1985, also on 1995's Kojak Variety) (It's really a cover of Little Willie John, but I know it as a Beatles song)
Claire Martin w/ Noel Gallagher of Oasis on ac. guitar - Help! (Take My Heart)
    Chieftains - Blackbird (Celtic Harp)
    Aerosmith - Come Together (single)
Soundgarden - Come Together (rare something or other)
Siouxsie & The Banshees - Dear Prudence (single)
der Bingle - Hey Jude (from the album Hey Jude, Hey Bing)

The I Am Sam Sndtrk have several hits and a few misses. IMHO the misses include Eddie Veddor's reading of "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" and Paul Westerberg's stripped down treatment of "Nowhere Man". I was expecting a rip snorting punkish version, a la The Replacements, and was very disappoointed when I heard the Westerberg acoustic rendition.. It about put me to sleep.

Ah, another good snag on the Soundgarden - "Come Together". I still think I like Aerosmith's version better. The Soundgarden version was on both a 12" single and 10" EP of "Hands All Over". There was a CD version of the EP released as well. The track later showed up on the Japanese version of the "Loud Love" CD and a DJ-only compilation CD called "Forshocks".

Mark Lindsay (of Paul Revere fame) does a nice take on 2 Beatle songs that he has linked together into a medley; The Long And Winding Road/Yesterday. This is on a 'two-fer' CD of his early 70s works.

I heard a great and very different version of She Loves You on the radio. It was basically 2 guys talking in a bar or somewhere discussing a girl with the lyrics to the song as the script. It really showed how brilliant the lyrics are, that they can be used as a conversation and not feel stilted. Is that the Peter Sellers version? If not, had anyone heard it and who's it by?

    They did.

On the import LP and CD The Night The Light Went On In Long Beach, which is a live album, they did a killer version of Day Tripper.

    I forgot those. Good ones!
Thanks! I'll look around at some of the online music retailers to see if the CDEP is still available. If not I probably have to pay an arm and a leg on eBay.

I allways thought that me and Patti Harrison were the only earthlings that could tolerate Wild Honey Pie, so I was kind of relieved when The Pixies did a cover version

    Mark,

I listened to this album yesterday - in fact, I listened to the majority of my Tony Bennett CDs yesterday :D. I do not particularly like "Something" (to much breath of the 70s IMO). My favourite Bennett tune of all time is "Nobody Else But Me" - from which album does this originate? It's on the "40 years" box set, but the booklet must be buried somewhere in my parents' attic. I've got to have the CD of the original album - are there more songs like that (I mean, accompanied by Ralph Sharon's trio alone)?

"I'll Cry Instead" -- Billy Joel

A live track, it was originally the B-side of the 45 rpm release of "An Innocent Man." He does a nice job, though if memory serves, he does the stereo LP version (short) rather than the mono Capitol single/UA album version (long).

"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" -- Hooters

Another live track, this was originally a 45 rpm B-side, too, on the single of "Johnny B."

"Why Don't We Do It in the Road?" -- Lowell Fulson

Interesting version, as Lowell gets into the spirit of the thing. He creates at least two new verses, which he did by simply changing the word "road" to other places he wants to "do it."

The Beatles songs that Dionne Warwick has recorded:
Come Together (as part of a medley)
    Hey Jude
    Something
    We Can Work It Out
    Yesterday
