I don't think this one counts, technically, but, "Come and Get It" by Badfinger was written by Paul McCartney (check "Anthology 3"). I assume the Beatles recorded it before Badfinger but Paul ended up letting them record it, while he played bass & produced the single - Badfinger's first hit.

    Hi Arne,

Know what you mean re' "Something" - there are some notable other tracks though - I like the way he uses his voice on "The Long And Winding Road"

"Nobody Else But Me" - it's from the excellent "When Lights Are Low" - circa '63. I believe this was one of the albums held back/ready for release by Sony/Columbia Legacy.

    Cheers,
    MarkM.

I have that on disc. And Chet also recorded "Imagine" in the late 80's on his album, C.G.P.

The Ventures did "I Feel Fine", "Eleanor Rigby", "Hey Jude" , "Let It Be", among others.

Got a thing for covers of "A Day In The Life", for some reason.

Back in October 2000, one of the UK TV channels had a John Lennon tribute show to mark what would have been his 60th birthday. British group Moloko did an awesome live version of "A Day In The Life". Jeff Beck also did a superb instrumental version of this tune at a Sting concert in London I went to in the summer of 2001.

Interesting. I saw U2 do a similar interpretation back in '87 on the Joshua Tree Tour.

Which reminds me of Jeff Beck's She's A Woman from Blow By Blow.

The Church did a fantastic version of "It's All Too Much" on their covers album A Box of Birds, released in 1999. This is one of the best all-covers albums out there! Highly recommended!

"I Will" by Alison Krauss. Just love her version. First time I heard it, it took me awhile to place it - the melody is so familiar, but the bluegrass instrumentation threw me....

I also like the Waterboys' sneaking "Blackbird" into the middle of their cover of Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing".

    and a few more...

Alvin Lee (of Ten Years After) does a smokin' 9:52 min. version of I Want You (She's So Heavy) on his 'I Hear You Rockin' CD from a few years ago.

Deep Purple's 1968 cover of Help is a good one.

Jeff Healey/Band does a nice job with While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

And the Mamas & Papas do a nice version of I Call Your Name.

I just remembered the best Beatles cover of all time: Tiny Tim's version of "Nowhere Man", which is (I think) only available on the Beatles 1968 Christmas record.

This is the Beatles cover I probably like the most, at least it's the one I play more often than others:

"Don't Let Me Down" - Phoebe Snow

IMO, she really makes this song her own to a degree that makes me almost think "nah, that's not the real thing" when someone plays the original version. Sorry for this heresy, folks.

I almost forgot... George Benson recorded "The Other Side of Abbey Road" just three weeks after the original was released. It's pretty much all of Abbey Road, but the running order is different.

Dat's it! Sorry to be so slow.

Thanks to the wonders of overdubbing and George Martin replicating his Goon Show work, you can hear a Peter Sellers' Dr Strangelove voice in one channel speaking: "She said you hurt her zo".

The other speaker has Peter Sellers a la demented Nazi responding: "Gut".

A Hard Day's Night is Peter Sellers pretending to be Laurence Olivier performing Henry V with Elizabethan solo. Brilliant.
