43rd day of this Beatles songs tourney, where the ultimate objective is to choose the best song by the Fab Four (according to the opinions of this forum).

    ROUND 4

    Today's match:

    R4c: Rain (R3c) vs. Dear Prudence (R3f)

    Previous matches:

R4a: A Day In The Life (R3a) vs. In My Life (R3h)
R4b: Strawberry Fields Forever (R3b) vs. Tomorrow Never Knows (R3g)

    Next match:

R4d: Penny Lane (R3d) vs. We Can Work It Out (R3e)

In case of a tie, the song voted by me will lose and the other one will qualify to the next round.

This is like watching World Cup Football (not US football) finals: Your favorite teams have been beaten out of the tournament and you don't really care that much any more.. Germany will take the gold etc..

Don't get me wrong, Dear Prudence is obviously a great song, but I'm not sure how it is winging it's way to the semi final of greatest Beatles songs.

"Rain" is a fantastic song with, in particular, superlative bass and drums, but "Dear Prudence" is one of my favorite songs of all time so that wins it for me.

Probably the song found a relatively easy path. For instance, "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "In My Life" would probably beat it in a one vs. one match. But this is common is this kind of tourneys. See that "Rain" reached here beating "Hey Jude" and "Something", two of the most famous Beatles songs; but most fans from this forum may be a bit tired of them.

Personally, I put "Dear Prudence" among my Top 10 Beatles songs; but I also think it's reaching farther than I expected.

"Strawberry Fields" also features great drumming; but I think that's not Ringo alone, or he didn't record his drums/percussion at once.

A Day In The Life's gonna be the winner in the end, no doubt.

Until that... let's welcome Dear Prudence!

You're really making this harder and harder...but I have to go with Dear Prudence. Rain is a classic on a number of levels...the song itself, Ringo's drumming, Paul's bass playing, the guitar textures...man, what a record...but in the end, DP has the same incredible qualities only, IMO, it's simply a better a song and I like the vocal by John better. The only irony is that it's Paul on drums instead of Ringo. ...hey...life happens!

Good battle! Honestly I think they are tied for quality, originality and sonics. I voted Rain but that’s just a personal thing.

Rain - Ringo on drums (maybe his best)
Prudence - Macca on drums (does the job)

Macca is a wannabee drummer, way too rigid and tense, falling all over the kit during the last half of the song

The first notes of Glass Onion bring us back to a real drummer
