Okay so was finally patient enough to set up my small 5.1. surround system after almost three years.

Have Pink Floyd DSotM & WYWH + Beatles Sgt. and some others. Just took a first listen of Eagles "Hotel California" and it sounded fantastic.

While I've noticed that surround speakers mainly include guitar + percussion and "atmosphere" sounds, I was wondering are there surround mixes where music is more equally divided to every speaker?

Also I would LOVE to hear your personal surround audio favorites. Let's exclude live shows and concentrate on studio albums, shall we?

based on the stuff you listed, i would get fleetwood mac rumours also.

There are so many great surround mixes available now it is awesome

    5.1
    Jethro tull
    Talking heads
    King Crimson
    Nick Cave
    ELP
    Yes
    Moody Blues
    Genesis
    Gentle giant

    4.0
    Chicago quadio
sly and the family stone greatest hits
    best of bread
    alice cooper muscle of love
gentle giant free hand and interview (if you can find them)

I could go on and on. There are a couple that aren't so great, but mainly older ones (kind of like some early stereo mixes, just not quite right.)

I agree but I would listen to it more and at a louder volume if it wasn't so damn compressed. I still recommend it!

That Genesis doesn't belong in that list of premium multichannel mixes in my opinion. Sorry to nit pick.

Thanks to all of you for your great answers! Keep 'em coming! ;)
The list including QUAD to DVD/BD is interesting. Also forgot about Zappa: hope ZFT / Travers will give BD treatment to those 70s albums (Overnite... & Apostrophe' at least) which were originally released in QUAD.

If you like the album, anything mixed by Elliot Scheiner and/or Steven Wilson.
