Would forum members who have extensive experience in dealing with Amazon Marketplace care to share their insights with regards to its participants? Which is the best and which one to avoid? My first purchase experience with Newbury Comics was excellent and the delivery took little time since the order shipped from MA. My first purchase experience with Import CD Specialists from CA was quite good too, though the order took a little longer to arrive. Caiman is also a participant but I have heard some unsavory comments about it from fellow forum members ...

I have not had any bad experiences with any Amazon Marketplace participant, even Caiman.

no issues with Caiman either, other than they are certainly slower than Newbury for me, but thats probably based on location.

I've never had 1 bad experience with any amazon used seller though.

If Newbury is among them, i tend to just shop from them even if its a little more. I tend to get anyhting I order from there in 2 delivery days after the order, which for me is quicker than amazon itself usually.

Me too - so far, so good. Just look at the feedback. If their feedback is a little low, I usually shoot them an e-mail and feel them out.

I have been buying from buy.com almost exclusively for the past few years. While I get free shipping when the total order is $25 or over, the shipping charge has already been priced in. But what really has gotten on my nerve is the CD's I receive are usually shoddily packed and in one shipment of over 10 CD's, three or four of the CD jewel cases were cracked.

I have had a lot of experience with Amazon marketplace - and by far the best has been Newbury Comics. Their delivery to me in Australia has usually been very rapid - and they even sent me the One Kiss Can Lead To Another hatbox set for the cost of shipping one CD (the actual postal cost would appear to have been around $US25). I think they made a loss on that one - but I still received it in 5 days. I agree that Import CD Specialist have been pretty good to.

Now this is something I have never done - to order CD's from a foreign country. I saw a CD set at very good price on Amazon France but did not order it due to the language issue. I also dread the possibility of having to track a lost delivery. BTW, is this wild fire still burning?

I had a problem. I moved a few months ago and mixed up 2 numbers on my new address. The address I typed didnt exist so the I never got the cds I ordered from Import CD specialists and Herman street music. They should have been returned to them as "no existing address" within a week. I emailed both places and offered to pay the shipping again if they could ship the cds to me again. Herman Street mailed them back within 2 weeks while CD import specialists never responded. I filed a complaint with Amazon and got my money back from them.

Caiman is slow, sometimes up to 3 weeks for delivery.

Free delivery is from Amazon. If you're buying from a Marketplace merchant, where I sell, you pay $2.98 for standard shipping, which is supposed to arrived in 3-5 business days. I send my cds out as "first class". It costs me an average of $1.81 to ship that way (US), and generally the package will arrive in 2-3 days. You can opt for expedited shipping, which is also 1st class, but requires the seller to mail it out much quicker.

My first and only experience with Import CD specialists from last week was excellent, considering the order was shipped from CA. My order from Newbury arrived in super short time. Where is Herman Street Music located? I know Caiman is located in FL and given its long delivery and somewhat spotty customer service records, I may not want to bother with them.

I've never heard of that seller. What have you bought there and how were the prices?

I've never had a problem with Newbury Comics. They have very good service.

I had a problem with a CD I ordered from SecondSpin and they handled it very well. They promptly refunded my money and emailed me a postage paid return label.

I don't buy from Caiman anymore.

I have not come across Herman Street probably because it does not carry classical music, which is pretty much all I listen to for the past 20 years. How is its service anyway?

Great. Not fast, but dependable. Great selection of hard-to-find titles at great prices. I've bought a bunch of old jazz titles from them that no one else had. New, sealed.

Beware of the seller GoHastings. Terrible seller. If he can list it as the 24kt, mfsl or dcc, he will. Even if it's just a picture of one drawn of cardboard.
Twice he got me on The Cars and Don Henley cds.

I've had no problems at all with Amazon Marketplace, and I have purchased titles from many of the participating stores. These sellers seem to be on their best behavior. It seems like Amazon runs a tight ship here. :)

Strike up one more for Newbury Comics. Great prices, and really fast delivery. Caiman does deliver slowly...but they do deliver.

Never had a problem using amazon market place, and use it extensively.
I have used many different sellers (too many to remember all), but the ones I use the most are newbury, hermanstreet, and even the infamous caiman.
I just remembered I did have one seller, no longer listed, that never sent my order, after 30 days I filed with amazon and got a refund in less than a week.

Great to see all the positive comments about Newbury. As a Mass resident, I try to buy from them whenever possible instead of one of the Big Box butchers. They truly are a gem.
