On any given day, one of these would be my favourite Beatles album. A Hard Days Night Revolver Pepper The White Album Abbey Road
Three things I'd like to mention regarding this thread's subject: 1) Sgt. Pepper's position has certainly waned over the last 50 years. 2) There's really no "best" album, only favorite ones. 3) My favorite is Abbey Road because I think it is where the four Beatles really shine as performers (both as singers and as instrumentalists). By that time it was obvious they wrote great songs, but IMO this is the album where they showed eveybody they could really play! (on tbe other hand, Pepper is the album where a greater percentage of what we hear is not played by the Beatles, too many session musicians).
AND NOW HERE THEY ARE THE BEATLES! My ALL TIME FAVORITE IS...Young, hungry, excited, tight, live and absolutely rocking! LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL! This is where they shined, LIVE ON STAGE!
A good friend of mine has Rock 'n' Roll Music as his favorite Beatles album. I . . . Nothing wrong with this in my opinion, just an unusual choice. He's also a big Mike Pinera fan, which you don't meet a heck of a lot of, and he's particularly fond of Pinera's 1979 album, Forever.
Beatles ( er.. not Pete ) best ? Summer : Revolver / Abbey Road Winter : TWA Fall: Beatles For Sale/ Rubber Soul
Abbey Road A Hard Day’s Night Rubber Soul (US version) Revolver Sgt. Pepper That’s my top 5, but I enjoy all of their albums.
Since some people are doing lists... my faves, in order, are: #1 - The White Album --- My Favorite album by Anyone, Anytime #2 - Revolver #3 (tie) - With the Beatles #3 (tie) - A Hard Day's Night #3 (tie) - Abbey Road
Current thinking: 1. Revolver 2. Sgt Pepper 3. Magical Mystery Tour 4. Abbey Road 5. Rubber Soul 6. A Hard Days Night 7. The Beatles 8. Help! 9. Beatles For Sale 10. With the Beatles 11. Please Please Me 12. Let it Be 13. Yellow Submarine
It has changed a lot over the years. Rubber Soul used to be my final answer...but now I think it's either Pepper or A Hard Day's Night - both of these albums, as well as being full of consistently great songs, also redefined what you could do with the album as a musical art-form...
With the Beatles & A Hard Day's Night. Beatlemania and they were re-writing popular music and popular culture.
