    There will always be collectors.

    Whether or not that will bleed over to the main youngsters or today, in a few decades time, I have no idea. My own kids I could see more likely to re-buy Nintendo DS cartridges and PS2 and Wii games, in twenty years time, than the music they listened to in their teens.
  2. I suspect certain genres will remain alive on CD in the collector's market. There is actually a lot of 90's era Rap music that is basically locked to the CD format because they came out on small labels without major distribution - that music is never hitting the streaming sites.
