Leslie Duncan very prominent on a lot of Dusty Springfield recordings... Doris Troy also backed up Springfied, as well George Harrison, ... and even backed up Nick Drake! Good choices.

    okay..

i'm in the middle of mixing a track....i know i need some female backing vox...the track is very seventies rock....i know i want a 'black' sound, somethiing from muscle shoals or stax or that type of thing...but what white seventies groups used those kind of singers or those kinds of sounds???? what can i listen to for inspiration?

I recently read an article on Motown's female backing vocalists, the Andantes (usually uncredited). Article says they performed backing vocals on some 20,000 songs, all prior to 1972, when they got laid off from Motown.

Beat me to it, and on the album's opener I Met Him on a Sunday. I would be perfectly content if this was the last song I ever heard.

  24. Particularly on Grams Parson's two solo albums. There's some speculation Gram was planning to co-credit Emmylou on the Grievous Angel album had he not died before it's release.
