Very much a journeyman film director, Crichton managed to make a handful of good films as Director. I hwve found his best films were those he worked on as a consultant or writer but, with the right people working with him, Crichton managed to tackle a number of projects that were truly memorable.

    for me-(in descending order)

Westworld-While not as technically accomplished as later films, the story and performances along with the early use of computer training-hi s make this truly memorable plus it introduced the concept of a computer virus in 1973. The low budget is evident but it’s still a fun and accomplished film.
Pursuit-an underrated TV movie that Crichton based on his own novel (written under a pseudonym whole he was in medical school)
Coma-Probaly his best film from a technical perspective.
The Great Train Robbery-based, again, on his novel

I became a Crichton fan after reading Andromeda Strain during my high school years. I liked how he structured a lot of those early novels like they were nonfiction books, complete with footnotes and bibliographies. Westworld is surely my favorite movie he ever made. Cheesy but a lot of fun. I've never seen the HBO show.

I’ve always like his novels more than his films a;though he did do,some good work for both. The one I just could not stand was Phil Kaufman’s adaption of Rising Sun. Crichton wrote early drafts of the script from his novel.

"I prefer his work as a screenwriter and directed by others."

Solely due to "Jurassic Park" and "Twister".

To be fair, I've not seen "Great Train Robbery", so it might be good, but the others he directed... not so much! :shh:

As I said, he was more of a journeyman Director although Coma and The Great Train Robbery are well directed. Honestly though, he would never be in the same category as Hitchcock more in the category of. I heal Anderson. Luckily, he was a better writer than director and, with the right cast, his films can stand up fairly well.

I know you're the king of typos, but usually I can figure 'em out.

"I heal Anderson"? Not so much! :D
