yes I know, but both Hit 'n' Run albums were recorded before AOA, so that one is his Abbey Road

My favorite final album untill now is Strangeways Here We Come from The Smithsv, despite the horrible song The Death of a Disco Dancer.....

Agree with the smiths , also the Jam’s last album “The gift” is a good one

I was going to start a thread titled “last album best album,” but I think that’s what this thread is already about. Isn’t it? Artists/bands whose swan song is arguably their finest:

ABBA - The Visitors. Remarkable how they got better with each album. I go between Super Trouper and this but lately the Visitors takes the lead.

Johnny Cash - I can’t compare to all of his catalogue but American IV must certainly be at or near the top.

My buddy and I talk about how AOA feels like Prince’s last album although we know it isn’t. Something special about that one for sure.

If I can have the final album before an unforeseen reunion 10 years later, then I offer:

    Crowded House - Together Alone

Couldn’t disagree more about Southern Blood, I find it a very solid effort. The vinyl edition sounds great on my rig, sure it’s a slight departure in some respects but that’s what makes it interesting and a good listen.

Super Trouper and The Visitors are like day and night. The former is as sunny and light as the latter is cloudy and somber.
The Visitors is Adult-Pop and ABBA songwriting team as its best.

    Television - Television (1992 album)

I know that their first is considered their best.
The fact is that i still can't connect to that album after 40 years but at the same time i understand literally every note played on their last record. A masterpiece IMO.

Edit : advice for the listener : Listen with headphones !

Don't know anybody else who agrees with this, but I think Blackstar is Bowie's best album. It's my favorite, at least. It's the darkest music I've ever heard.

Porcupine Tree - The Incident (2009)
This Mortal Coil - Blood (1991)
Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Ice Cream for Crow (1982)

It's a reunion album, but The Blake Babies God Bless The Blake Babies is their best work IMHO.

Siouxsie and the Banshees did a remarkable job on their final album, The Rapture.

    Even the b-sides were stunning!
