It definitely has a “there” quality about it. In my system CD’s were detailed but a bit flat, after 20 minutes or so they were boring and I was finding it hard to keep engaged. This DAC has introduced some 3 dimensionality that is giving them a boogie factor that I felt was missing.

Well if stuff we make ourselves counts...

I placed into service two new 12" subs w/ aperiodic enclosures. Think back to the old Dynaco A-25 speakers. You can sort of think of aperiodic enclosures as "fooling" a driver into thinking it is in a much larger infinite baffle enclosure. The resulting units dig deep and the resulting Qts of .66 or so means no boomy sound. Each sub is located under a satellite, which is clamped to an end table.

With that done, I turned my sights to the electronic crossover I was using, an inexpensive Rolls unit. I had struggled to control noise (hum) with this thing, and there are all sorts of reviews out there showing phase issues between LF and HF outputs. All fairly easy to accommodate, but I decided to build my own passive crossover. That is the little black box on top of the right-side amp.

So I ordered some PCB material and enclosure, used my CNC router to cut my PCB, and made my passive xover using high-quality Panasonic film capacitors and cherry-picked resistors. The xover frequency is 300-Hz, 6db on the subs and 12db on the satellites is what I found sounds ideal after some experimentation.

My Schiit Audio Aejir monoblocks. Just great!

However, learning that my Schiit gungnir Multibit DAC really blossoms when left on continuously has just as significant in improving my system's sound.

This holiday weekend, I am playing many of my old favorite songs and hearing details for the first time. Really fun!

Not anything big for me this year so far, but I did just install a pair of vintage Partridge 977 transformers in my Conrad Johnson Premier 15, been giving it a workout this weekend, just 6x gain but really bumps it up ...

Transformers mounted but not wired ...

After wiring complete, ready to plug in ...

It took several months of struggle and negotiation but the wife finally gave the green light for my first home audio purchase of 2019 (see post #58 in this thread). I was happy with my system except for wishing it had more deep bass. That's no longer a problem. Meet my new SVS SB-3000 subwoofer. This sub is the perfect fit for my situation. Another plus is that I can easily move it by myself. Not so with their more expensive models. This will likely be my best hardware acquisition of 2019 because it will be my only one.

Thanks to Amazon, yesterday we received a new wifi router,a Neatgear Nighthawk. I recently started subscribing to Qobuz, for hi Rez streaming through a Bluesound Node 2. The problem was, most times I couldn't make it through a song without the music cutting out. Talk about frustration!! Well,Amazon delivered the new router at about 7:30pm,by 8:00pm it was hooked up,and the Node 2 synced. Wow!!! I can now listen without any interruptions. Life is so much better now!

It’s only the beginning of June, and I have already acquired probably too many things... entirely new analog front end and a subwoofer, more than doubling the cost of my system as a whole.

I would have been thrilled for the Hsu ULS-15 MK2 subwoofer to be the best acquisition of the year, but four days of use has put the Technics SL-1210GR solidly on top.

Also happy with the Graham Slee Accession phono stage and the upgrade to a ML stylus for the AT-VM95 cartridge, but those are icing on the Technics cake. The 1210GR has by far made the greatest improvement in both sound quality and ease of use.
