Without a doubt, my vote goes to Connery...who is prob the better overall actor as well. For the more modern releases, I vote for Craig. His more menacing portrayal suits the era better. Some of the movies were weak, but his portrayal was consistently good.
For me it's a tight race between Connery and Brosnan. It's easy to favor Connery since I also think the first four Bond movies all in all are the strongest ones. Brosnan was in a tougher spot. Golden Eye is great but the rest of the movies are quite uneven. Still I'll pick Connery.
I think in terms of acting ability (body of work) it’s Dalton. As Bond it’s Brosnan for me. Brosnan is the best of Connery and Moore, the right balance of smooth, camp and grit. Connery had the best films, though Goldeneye is a Top 10 Bond film, none of the rest rose to the occasion. I don’t care for a lot of the Moore stuff. Aside from that, I agree with whoever said that Majesty’s was a missed opportunity for Connery.
Best actor that played Bond: Daniel Craig Actor best at playing Bond: Timothy Dalton Actor with best "creative" stories about playing Bond: George Lazenby Actor that seemed to have enjoyed playing Bond the most: Pierce Brosnan
I was watching goldeneye yesterday. I looked up the opening scene about jumping of that damn. Suppose to be one of the greatest stunts ever.
Brosnan did quite well at nailing the mix of suave charm and cold brutality the character is meant to have. Since some of his films are sillier (and in some cases a bit rubbish) it's easy to forget he's ruthless when it comes to killing those who have crossed him, more so than some of the other incarnations of Bond.
My stock answer to this question is, usually, whoever's playing him currently. Therefore Daniel Craig. Previously, Pierce Brosnan. Etc., etc. ... but I think those two will be hard to beat; nevertheless I look forward to the next Bond, whoever it is. I was hoping for Idris Elba, but that ship sailed I guess.
Agreed. I watched the Brosnan movies a few days ago and GoldenEye still stands as a very good Bond movie. But I gotta say I enjoyed Tomorrow Never Dies and especially The World Is Not Enough a lot more than I remembered. Die Another Day was still pretty bad apart from the fencing scene. I feel the last three movies have "unfocused" storyline and doesn't really manage to keep the tension of GoldenEye. Can't shake the feeling it was a missed opportunity because he was a great Bond.
I guess it's too snarky to say 'mike myers'? (bond as austin powers, that is) ? thinking about him as i stumbled into watching the other day a broadcast of 'you only live twice'-- and its kind of unintentionally funny, recalling the way it was satirized in the 'austin powers' movies.. (kidding, i know, but i couldn't resist!) seriously, tho, I've only seen (most of the ) connery and moore years, so I'd say connery. I don't think i've seen a full 'bond' film since 'spy who loved me' perhaps?
