I contributed to the other thread, but I'll switch up my Elton closers to this one-"Goodbye" from Madman Across the Water.

"Mystery" from James Gang's "Bang" album
"Can't Let You Go" from Survivor's "When Seconds Count" album.
"Dream On" from Uriah Heep's brilliant 1995 "Sea of Light" album. (No, it's not an Aerosmith cover)
"Just One Victory" from Todd Rundgren's "A Wizard, A True Star"
"Love Is The Answer" from Utopia's "Oops Wrong Planet"
"One World" from Utopia's "Swing To The Right"

Stuff Up the Cracks from The Mothers of Invention's Cruising with Ruben and the Jets. If you decide to leave me, it's all over... And a wicked guitar solo. Another clever way to seal off a nice little album...

Maybe not a great album closer, but a great song that closes an album is "Train in Vain" on London Calling. (Does that make sense? :))

Zappa's "Broadway The Hard Way" CD version ends with "Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk", the content of which, if discussed here, would possibly be...err...short lived? :)

In terms of a track that is both critically acclaimed and generally regarded by the general public as a classic, "A Day in the Life" is probably the winner, with some competion from "Surf's Up" and "Won't Get Fooled Again."

But, my personal favorite is "Twist and Shout". A great closer of a great album, and the last thing recorded at the single most important recording session of all time.

The Beatles and The End. They pulled out all the stops with lead guitars a go go, and Ringo's finest moment, even Pete Best would admit it. :)

One I can think of fairly quickly is 'Watching And Waiting' by The Moodies on 'To Our Children's Children's Children. Masterpiece.

"Twilight at Carbon Lake" that closes Microcastle by Deerhunter is a really nice one. Possible homage in the title to the Dusk at Cubist Castle album in my avatar, with a slow build to a very cool and noisy ending. Blissful.

"P.S. You Rock My World" provides a fitting and cathartic ending to the very emotional Electro-Shock Blues by the Eels. Great record. Great ending.

Don't think it's been mentioned, but "Good Morning, Captain" from the second Slint record Spiderland is one amazing closer, especially the ending. As is the great AFK closer from Pinback's Summer in Abaddon that references that ending.

And of course, there's one of my big alltime favorites in the blissful "Blue Line Swinger" to close out the sparawling Yo La Tengo Electr-o-Pura... http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/blue-line-swinger-yo-la-tengo.172602/
