Speakers Corner is too bass-heavy. Other aspects of it are good, though.

I wouldn't trust this just based on Lou's involvement. It'll be clearly a pressing from the recent boxset remasters.

Got it today. Sounds fuller than the mid 90s CD I'm used to, that mix always felt a little thin to me. Would add it is pretty bassy though. Good separation in the instruments and not as hot/bright a mix to the one im used to. The backing vocals are more prominent in the mix as well.

Speakers Corner version. Fully analogue and you won’t have to run the used record gauntlet as you can still get it new. I bought mine a couple of weeks ago and its is a fantastic listen .

In the case of Herbie Flowers not necessarily a bad thing!

Indeed very bassy! Too much for my taste. Shame, quality is very good though.

Another vote for Speakers Corner. I have the box set with the remastered version and it certainly is pretty good but almost certainly from digital. The SC is AAA.

The bass is very prominent on a few songs, like “Vicious” and “Hangin’ Round”.
“Walk on the wild side” sounds incredibly good!
    So mixed feelings altogether...

On the recent Record Store Day, A scan of used LP bins led me to a 1972 Rockaway pressing of TRANSFORMER for about 5$. ( based on Discogs research and the runout info). Orange RCA label, super clean and...WOW...near to audiophile sound and very quiet vinyl. Upon closer inspection, this was probably only played a handful of times. Great to hear such fresh sound in an almost 50 yr. old record. BTW, I’m no longer impressed by 180 g remastered as I’ve had to return several to Amazon for overall poor sound.

Speakers Corner every day... brilliant pressing. I think you'll find that the new reissue "overseen by Lou himself" was cut from digital files. As said before, Speakers Corner is AAA and the "go to" version.

  15. I dont find it too bassy. I really like this issue and whether or not its from digital files does not bother me. Sounds great

The UK orange label blows the US dynaflex out the water it’s like it was cut at Trident Studios like the master was.

    Compared to the:
    Kevin Gray reissue
    Speakers Corner reissue
    MOV reissue
    US pressing (5s/6s Indianapolis pressing)

The UK 1E/1E in the non-laminated cover is far superior IMHO. Best midrange. Bass still deep and rich, but not overblown.

Finally had a reasonably priced still-sealed copy of this puppy (the much lauded Speakers Corner version) pop up on my Discogs saved searches (and from a US seller, too.) Ordered!

What do you guys think is a better deal: Speakers Corner pressing for $40 in mint condition or a UK first pressing with 1/E matrices in EX condition for $52?

Alternatively, does the 1/E sound THAT much better than the Speakers Corner?

For me, it's not about the best deal. The UK pressing is how it should sound. Obviously a new speakers corner will sound the cleanest, but it has boosted bass compared with an original.
