It’s to the point of being a joke with Deerhunter. In 2008, Microcastle was leaked 3+ months early. Then, after deciding to include Weird Era Cont. as a surprise bonus for those who bought Microcastle’s physical release, Bradford Cox accidentally posted a link on his blog that gave open access to his Mediafire account, where he was storing a copy of Weird Era, causing it to also leak 2 months early.

Hmmm. Props for knowing the band’s history. You’re a real Deerhunter fan, it’s clear.

    A remastered old release.

“Recorded live in Tromsø, Northern Norway, October 1995.

Tromsø, 70 degrees north, in the Arctic region, in the middle of the most active northern lights zone. In summer time, land of the midnight sun. In winter, total darkness.

In October 1995, as part of the annual Polar Music Festival, Geir Jenssen of Biosphere and Bobby Bird of The Higher Intelligence Agency, were commissioned by Nor Concerts to collaborate together on a musical project to take place in Geir's home town of Tromsø, Norway. The brief was for them to perform three concerts, using sounds sourced from the area as the basis of the music - the machinery of the local mountain cable lift, the snow, the ice etc…

The performances from which this recording is taken, took place on top of a mountain above Tromsø, in a cabin reached by the cable car, in which the audience were transported up the mountain in turn.”

Solo piano music inspired by dreams, the circus, toys, and the enchanting scenes that comprise the memories of youth. From the excellent Bruno Sanfillipo.

Then, 'Monomania' leaked 1 month in advance, 'Fading Frontier' leaked more than a month in advance, and now again... Indeed to the point of it being a joke.

Sharon Van Etten will be the first purchase of the year for me. I don't usually look too far ahead, so let's see what this year brings.

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that Bradford’s just doing it himself.

It might be - for the other albums in the example - 4AD being too generous with non waterstreamed links, too early in advance. I remember Ariel Pink's albums leaking very early as well. Then again, he changed labels and his first album on Mexican Summer leaked 3 full months in advance...

Some tunes, including the one I'm linking to, were released in the latter part of last year, but the album release date was January 4, 2019 as far as I can tell:

Old Sea Brigade - Ode to a Friend

Cool lo-fi/diy indie. A bit of an R. Stevie Moore vibe.

If math rock is your jam... these guys have been killin' it in Atlanta for years. The first track "I rope Steers" on their upcoming record is ridiculous.. some of the best drumming .. and all recorded in the basement of one of the guitarists.. sounds great too.
