It was a banner year for Old Guys. Lots of records. Lots of good records. Now you get to vote for the ones you liked best. You had to be Social Security age (62 or above to qualify, so sorry, Paul Weller). Anyway, maybe you haven't heard them all yet, but feel free to vote for three.

I had some women on the list initially (Joan Baez, Yoko Ono) but sticking with just the guys and maybe there will be a women's poll if I have enough entries.

Note: Joe Jackson and Jesse Colin Young would have qualified with forthcoming albums but only pieces have been released so far.

Jon Hassell (age 81) not only released a new album; Listening to Pictures (Pentimento Volume One); he also founded a new label imprint (Ndeya). Now that's confidence. Note the volume 1.

Let’s hope he’s around long enough for more work with Eno. Loved that Possible Music vol. 1 they did in the early 80’s.

I voted for John Prine, Box Scaggs and Ry Cooder all of which are truly excellent albums. Not on the list but I would add Willie Nelson Last Man Standing.

No kidding, the Jon Hassell record would trump anyone on the list for me, though admittedly I haven't heard them all.

I'll add Willie. I had that one, forgot to add it.

The record this year with Kevin Shields was pretty amazing too, would love to hear more of that collaboration.

Latest Erik Friedlander record was very nice too, think he's pushing 60, guess still a youngster in this crowd :)

  12. Crosby, but as good as it is, keep in mind that this latest was more of a band project and all the other members are not old (and some not even guys).

You have to have heard all of them to vote I would assume.

If you use this same list but have us vote for the worst, I’d choose “Happy Xmas” in a heartbeat.

Nah, it's not scientific. But I believe all can be cued up via streaming.

  19. I absolutely loved 5 albums thus year. "Egypt Station" by Paul McCartney was one of those (along with Jeff Tweedy, Yo La Tengo, St. Vincent & The Nels Cline 4).

The other two here made my honorable mentions list ...so my 3 votes went to:
    ~Paul McCartney
    ~Richard Thompson
    ~Elvis Costello

    Honorable Mentions from this list-
    Graham Parker
    John Prine
    David Byrne
    Ray Davies
    David Crosby
    Neil Young

For some reason, I can't edit in any more entries. Sorry, Billy Gibbons!

The prolific Steve Roach has released plenty of albums this year. I like Molecules Of Motion.

    R. Stevie Moore has probably released six or seven as well. Forgot to check.

Only own 2, and I've not yet played the new Macca - I'm saving it until closer to the time I see him live next May.

So I picked Elvis, partly by default, but mainly because it's a very good album!

The Elvis Costello album is pretty phenomenal. If I had four votes, I would have gone for it. Prine, Cooder and Thompson got my vote. but I may have to change.

I will say the Joe Jackson stuff I've heard from his forthcoming album (2019, apparently), is really good. Night and Day good.
