McCartney, Prine and Costello in a tight battle so far

What about old Ladies? Marianne Faithfull's Negative Capability blows me away every time I play it.

Is Alejandro Escovedo “old guy” enough. His first band The Nuns opened for the Pistols at Winterland over 40 years ago now. His album The Crossing was my favorite album of this year—old or young.

I like Escovedo but his latest album is a little too political for my liking.

May have a second one for women. Mentioned that at the outset. Joan Baez, Yoko Ono and others released albums this year

Escovedo would qualify, he's 67. I saw him in 2008 in SF on his Real Animal tour. Terrific.

So far I'm the solitary vote for Mark Knopfler.

Here I stand, right or wrong.

It's a pretty good album. I like it. You know what you're getting with MK, that's for sure.

Thread starter voted for Thompson, Prine and Cooder. Probably not a lot have heard of Grushecky, but he actually has a anti-Trump duet with his buddy Bruce Springsteen on this record. Grushecky is kind of a Pittsburgh version of Springsteen whose best days were as leader of the Iron City Houserockers in the late 1970s.

Voted for David Crosby. Another great record from Croz, who has been on a great roll since 2014.

I'd also add Springsteen on Broadway. A live album but truly amazing work.

Alejandro Escovedo, age 67, The Crossing. And it's a double album. My co-album of 2018.

    I voted Jon Hassell.
Also JCM - Heroes (Jon Hiseman (RIP), Clem Clempson, Mark Clarke)

  19. Of that list Costello is the stand out.Richard Thompson as runner up.If Paul Weller had qualified would have been runner up.

Three years older than Costello, so sure.

Peter Holsapple is a few years younger and so not quite an "old guy" yet, but his album Game Day is ace.

  21. A nod to Lucinda Williams, who is 65 (66 at the end of January) & released a fine album this last year... "Vanished Gardens"- a collaboration with Charles Lloyd & The Marvels (Lloyd being an 80 year old Sax player himself)

In my country the age of retirement is 60 (it will be increased next year), so Paul Weller qualifies and wins.
