I just heard this after getting turned onto it from somebody’s year end roots list (maybe Paste)—incredibly interesting collaboration and really vital in its experimental and soulful impulses. This is really good and wonderfully surprising even if you know these artists.

This was a tough choice for me, but that Elvis Costello was a mindboggling return to form. Had to go there.

Graham Parker, John Prine and David Crosby.

Crosby mainly for being such a dark horse. The man has abused himself so much it’s amazing that he can still make beautiful music.

    Old guys do rule!

Like many, I know of Joe solely due to his connection to Bruce. I've seen Joe guest with Bruce at a bunch of Pittsburgh Bruce shows, and I've gone to 4 of the "Grushecky concerts" that were really just Bruce shows with the Houserockers as his band.

Based on those experiences, I never felt much of an urge to get Joe's albums. He seems like a nice guy and I enjoyed the shows with Bruce, but the Joe songs I heard didn't do it for me!

Definitely my Top Two, with Paul being at numero uno. A great list in general and clearly shows what the old guard can do. Glad many of them are still out there doing what they do best, we certainly need them to be.

No more political than Bob Seger's cover of Lou's "Busload of Faith"! Hey, you missed a Detroit old guy in the list.

70 year old pianist and composer Lubomyr Melnyk has a great new record this year, Fallen Trees on the Erased Tapes label, a bit out of place in this poll but a beautiful album ...

Yeah but with Alejandro it's the whole album! For the same reason I dislike The Good, The Bad and the Queen's new album.

Not just old guys making good records.

Marianne Faithfull (71) - Negative Capability

Joan Baez (77) - Whistle Down the Wind

    Yoko Ono (85) - Warzone

They were originally in my list. I thought I'd do a women's only poll at some point. Faithfull probably wins here. She might win against all the guys.

John Prine, David Crosby and Richard Thompson get my votes. Elvis Costello's #4.

Yoko Ono would have bumped down Thompson and Costello.

Haven't heard Ray Davies' new one yet. Really need to soon.

Hope they all live to 100 and beyond and are able to keep giving the world great music.
