Does "Dixie Chicken"(Little Feat) count? They play that song on the speakers at work, coming from a shuffling CD player...so, the whole thing is like 9 minutes long...and it's always lulls me into some sort of quiet place...then it starts back up again.

On the double concept album The Ballad of Calico by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, there's a song at the end of Side 2 called "Dorsey the Mail-Carrying Dog." It stops abruptly on an unresolved suspension in the middle of the last line. The last 3 words of the sentence are at the beginning of Side 3.

Since I first heard it many years ago, I've always liked the pause added to Pearl Jam's live version of Black from the Atlanta 1994 show. I'm not sure if that's something they routinely do or not, but it's very effective.

Wow! Deep Purple's "Never before" has a fine little pause (after Mr. Blackmore's guitar solo) that hasn't been mentioned yet.

  14. Toto - Home Of The Brave, just before the final chorus. Even better when performed live.

Andy Williams - "This Is My Song" has a great pause/false ending.

Here's the original version (around the 2 minute mark):

This magical moment seems to have been 'corrected' at some point so that it stays in time (butchered, more like :sigh:):

One of the many hooks that make this one a perfect pop song.

Probably no-one outside of Ireland with get this, but it's got to be the live version of Skidoo by Stockton's Wing from the album Take One.

I love the way 'Night Boat To Cairo' by Madness still catches the audience with it's gradual stop before it kicks in again.

This one is super - he looks incredibly haunted during that pause.
