There's a few songs I really like (Skeleton Key is best) but I'm a little disappointed by Epica's new album overall. Not as heavy as The Holographic Principle which I love and played to death.

I like both of those albums myself and you have to admit, it's great to see a band like that get in the top 5 on the album charts in multiple countries like Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

I probably like it because it isn't quite as heavy as some of Epica's music, though I haven't heard The Holographic Principle.

Got a bit more time to engage this week!

That's the first time I've got to hear Dry Cleaning & The Snuts. Thought the former were very interesting while the latter sounded like a thousand bog standard student bands. Shouldn't dismiss them out of hand though after just one song.

Lots of compilations, as usual. I'd like to see those put in a separate chart, I think.

I think I need to go and live in Germany!

Loved the Hamatom track. It was like Ye Banished Privateers covering a Decemberists number. Great video too. I didn't see the twist coming though all the clues were there.

d'Artagnan continue to impress. Their blend of rocked up folk really hits the spot for me. Think they'd go down a storm at the Cambridge Folk Festival or Cropredy.

Enjoyed the laid back vibe of Niedeckens BAP too.

Yona's pick of the bunch here. I imagine folks who buy things from the K-Scope label would enjoy modern orchestral prog like this. It would appeal to fans of Sarah Brightman too, I reckon.

Enjoyed Arttu Wiskari's solid pop rock too.

Enjoyed all of these. La Femme was the one I found most interesting. Wikipedia describe them as psych-punk so I assume that this sort of ethereal track is a bit of an outlier for them?

Yea it depends a bit on the album with La Femme. If you go back a bit further you'll see the stylistic trends more clearly I would say.

I agree about Yona though I doubt too many people outside of Finland who might like that have heard it unfortunately. Glad to hear you enjoyed Arttu's music...it's effective pop rock for sure.

Do we have some people on this massive and busy board with over 100,000 members who is interested in current music from Japan and elsewhere for that matter?

Topics about anything but the usual suspects disappear so quickly here from the top page that at times I wonder...

This board is excellent in many ways but it does seem to be ultra-conservative. It's a microcosm of older music fans in general, at least in my experience. Happy to pay silly money to watch Sixties & Seventies bands but not willing to part with a tenner to catch an up and coming act. Boggles my mind.

From your recent posts, I've become particularly enamoured with d'Artagnan. Haven't found anywhere to actually buy their albums yet but what I've heard on-line has been really excellent.

Ultra-conservative is putting it nicely :) Thousands and thousands of posts for things we've seen a million times over and over and not even one post about loads of things which have been happening in the past few years in multiple genres. I'm familiar with the phenomenon but it still boggles my mind like you say.

Glad you're enjoying the band and hope you can find a way to grab the albums too :)
