It's true that Western music is not very strong on the Japanese charts though there are a few albums from week to week. I assume you were joking about Sheena Easton and Ringo Starr but for those who are unaware, that's Sheena Ringo, a huge and eclectic Japanese star who has been at it for a while making interesting music:

 

This John Mayer guy seems to be doing well right across the charts. I must admit I hadn't heard of him, so I did some Youtubing and ... very MOR, 80s big ballad vibe. Not my scene! Seem unusual that this kind of soft rock is popular with the buying public. But you pays your money....!
