Steven Wilson seems to have finally hit the zeitgeist after knocking on the door for a couple of decades. His new album seems to be popular across the European continent. Done it by going synth pop. Who'd a thought it?

Enjoyed the Goat Girl track. Always amazed to find a band in the UK charts I haven't heard of.

I spotted a new thread on Wardruna, a band I learned about through your threads. Realised I hadn't seen any of your posts for a while so had a search. Haven't had a chance to listen to many of the clips yet but I will do. They are usually a treasure trove of interesting new music.

 

Yep Steven Wilson is a pretty much fixture now on the charts all around the world at this point...good for him.

That Notwist track is interesting. It reminds me of someone else but for the moment I can't quite work out who.

 

It's nuts, it really is.

Even in the UK, Rammstein sell out arenas and have done for the best part of a decade, at least and B'z are beyond huge in Japan. Plenty of Flat Earthers here, though.

 

Rammstein even sell out arenas in North America and were set to do STADIUMS before covid. B'z have done more stadium gigs than almost all the groups they are mentioning combined. And they have 49 straight #1 singles on the main singles chart in Japan over the past 30 years.

Meanwhile, some of them are mentioning 'heavy' singles from REM and the Carpenters while citing the wrong charts (if they even cite a chart).

It's incredible how provincial so many are here in spite of using the internet with access to anything in the world. I've seen it a million times but it still amazes me on some levels.

OK so they aren't familiar with them, fine. But I post videos, chart certifications and make it so easy.

And not one person says 'hmmm I didn't know that. How interesting that there's this different world out there with which I wasn't at all familiar. I should take a closer look into this'

 

The shame of it is, a bunch of folks who despair at the state of modern music are are missing out on some fantastic modern music by burying their heads in the sand. Just a quick click onto this thread would provide a real panacea for their jaded opinions.
