I should have known. Nice work, btw.

There's also a sound clip page comparing just about all the pressings. I've just rediscovered the link:

    http://needledrop.wikispaces.com/Dav...CD+Comparisons

    doesn't seem to work. Hmm.

    Where's that wiki? Anyone?

I've only recently acquired AS RCA JP, and I may append said post at a later date. One cool thing about my blog is that I now have EAC FLAC versions of every dB RCA release.

There was an EMI counterpart to the Ryko release? This is news to me...I know the Ryko releases were technically EMI in EUR, but they were bit-for-bit the same, lest I'm mistaken?

FWIW, I submitted samples that were never posted (thus I started posting samples in my blog), so whomever maintains it may have forgotten/aborted the wiki anyway.

Yup, I deleted the wiki. Everything's gone.

It's never been established if they are bit-for-bit or not.

I have the Ryko and EMI Space Oddity and the two definitely don't sound exactly the same. Whether they are level shifted or not is not known yet.

Hmmm...I can do a null test sometime soon, as I have some of the EUR Ryko (EMI) releases, and all of the domestic ones.

Thanks for the props, btw - those blog posts are hard work! I'm looking forward to doing StS (along with Low and perhaps Outside, my favorite dB album)! :)

Is there anyway to distinguish between the Japan for US, Japan for Europe, and Japan for Japan CDs?

JPN for US has orange box on spine, WG/JPN for Europe has blue box, and the JPN for JPN has japanese writing on one spine.

Do you mean the Japan-for-Japan RCA? I wonder if it's different from Japan-for-US and Japan-for-Europe.
(if confirmed positive, then I'd try to track it too)

The two (RCA) versions I have are PD83890 (Japan for Europe?) and PCD1-4852 (Japan for US?).

  16. Yes, except for the ones that aren't :D

Seriously, there are a few RCA Bowie discs with the red on the spines and blue ring on the discs that are made in the USA by DADC E.G. PinUps PCD1-0291which I own.

have you confirmed the existence of any others? i'm fairly confident that PinUps is the ONLY US for US RCA CD. it uses the same master as the JPN for US, which differs from the JPN for Europe. i've yet to hear of any other US for US titles.

what titles have you seen locally? there are some probably best avoided due to mastering errors, namely Hunky Dory, Young Americans, Station To Station, "Heroes" and Lodger. PM me if you need specifics. you won't go wrong with any of the remaining titles, even if the WG shades it in a shoot-out from time to time. there are definitely some titles where the US is my preferred version (Space Oddity, TMWSTW, Aladdin Sane for sure, others i'm still undecided on).
